Regardless, logging onto a domain and proper network tools is modern OS 101 now. Apple has them, all Linux distros have them, even silly little no name OS's have them...included for free as part of the OS. The first thing I do with a Mac is install Firefox. I can't remember a crash since 1.5.01 and that was caused by an incompatible extension. I haven't seen the memory usage problem since pre-1.5 With IE, FF and Opera all having their "dug-in" users, I don't see what kind of market share they expect to gain by releasing Safari to Windows.

As Dr. Guy said, there is no unifying force behind the Linux community, at least not one strong enough to give it the focus and purpose it needs to keep it together over internal differences. I think that the Linux product has matured enough to go head to head with MS in many arenas, and there's enough $$ to be made that the bigger players (read Novell, Mandriva, Redhat) look like they're set to compete to be the "face" that the Linux community has been lacking.

I think that that, as others have said, Vista will be slow to adoption as most users get it with a new PC purchase. I don't see Vista driving many people to Linux. I think this year we will see a splintering in the Linux community following the Novell/MS agreements. I think that the more commercial versions of Linux will gain market share as more servers are moved to a Linux OS, and more corporations move to a Citrix type of thin-client network, with the clients running a Suse or Redhat OS

Well, I just installed it a few hours ago, and so far so good. I had to get the RC2 drivers for my nVidia soundcard, and I got lots of compatibility warnings when I installed Nero 7 and SAV 10. Right now it looks like I can do a scan, but auto-protect won't work. I also see it automatically installs IPv6, but so far it hasn't caused a problem. My Winfast PVR card isn't supported. The installer puked when I tried to install. I had to play around a little to get DIVX encoded video t
