On a desktop, I prefer installing Linux on a separate hard drive, and then choose which to boot into from the BIOS. On a laptop I've always just used GRUB or LILO. If you poke around on Sourceforge.net you're likely to find something.

I would love to move to an MS Exchange platform, my employer is stuck on Lotus notes. And not even an up-to-date version. The end users are still on version 5. The servers are somewhere in Canada, and the spam filters, while keeping out a fair amount of spam, seem to be more efficient at blocking legitimate customer emails.

Set her up with a Linux install running a Virtual install of XP that restores to a clean image everytime she reboots. Of course then she'll never learn "safe-surfing" but maybe you won't be doing this again in 8 months.
The sad part is that most times you do a clean up like this for someone, it's back in the same shape in a few months. Sounds like time to give the cousin a course in safe computing!

I was trying to add to my first post, and WC kicked me off. The 2000 MT/S is mostly a marketing term. They take the FSB speed (1Ghz in this case) and double it to represent data being transported at 1Ghz in both directions, thus 2000.

You can have SATA and IDE drives in the same PC at the same time, as long as you have separate IDE and SATA headers on you motherboard, or a SATA controller PCI card. SATA drives use a completely different interface as well as different data and power cables. You can't have a SATA drive on an IDE channel, or vice-versa, which is what it sounds like you are asking.
