Work laptop is a Dell Latitude D820. Also have a P4 system in my office for building images and testing applications. At home: Primary desktop is a couple-year-old custom built w/AMD 4200, running XP Pro Mac G4 running MAMP that I use as a local web server Lenovo T42 running OpenSUSE 11, used for working on website, and general Linux fooling around. Nothing to compare to Jafo's fine machine, though.
I still think Sygate has the best personal firewall. There used to be a free version, but like so many good apps, it disappeared into the massive sucking void of Symantec. There is still a paid version for $39. I've been using Commodo for the last couple weeks, and it makes Vista's UAC look like a slacker by comparison. While it's very informative, I really don't need to know when every program I use wants to access the keyboard, or every obscure dll on my system.

vStyler, I'd replace that fan and heat sink as soon as possible. Once one of the clips breaks it puts additional strain on the other clip on that side, and when it goes, you're only getting minimal contact with the processor. System gets flaky pretty fast from there.

I applied all my Windows troubleshooting expertise and rebooted, applied the latest system updates, and rebooted again. CPU usage is running about what I would expect, and no unexplained spikes.
Sort of dual-boot. Win XP installed on one drive (with a second NTFS drive for storage), Linux installed to second drive. I choose which one to boot into by changing priority n BIOS. I left the machine alone and after a few minutes with nothing running, the CPU usage has finally settled down. While I prefer some alternate shells and file systems over explorer, I hate getting used to having things a certain way on my own desktop, and then feel lost when I work on other peoples' systems. So I pretty much stick with explorer. However, I know there used to be a lot of people here who really liked the Aston Shell.
