My first impressions playing this game reminded me of BOTF, but I have not played BOTF in so long I could not give a fair evaluation of the simularities. GalCiv certainly seems cleaner and easier to play a full game... I can say, in many ways, I wish BOTF played more like GalCiv. In short, I do recall that, like GalCiv, you can not design your own ships. Unlike Galciv, there is no tactical fleet combat. In all honesty, BOTF tactical combat was really just eye candy. After I learned
I have a game in progress on 1.11 that I'd like to continue. Should I wait to upgrade?
With the number of changes to the AI, I am waiting... The last time I did an upgrade in the middle of a gigantic game, it no longer loaded. I have also had bizare things occur in other games when earlier patches were applied. Finish this one out, then start fresh with the latest patch is my recommendation. I do look forward to trying it though... I simply have not had time to
A repair ship could be elcome, but actually, starbases can do some repair, so the constructor may be used for this purpose.
Isn't there a tech that embodies the idea of a ship tender-- interstellar repair, where ship can repair faster in deepspace away from star bases and planets. Using constructors to repair ships would not be a bad idea though, it would be like upgrading a startbase. The idea needs more thought though... Honestly, I prefer this to managing yet another
OK mswaim, fair enough about my nickname...
Hehe... OK "stupid nickname page" (I was going to shorten it up, but did not want to add insult to self inflicted injury). I thought perhaps you left for good. Not being my board, I usually am not so forward, but that name just burned itself through my retinas and into the back of my skull. I understand those days with technology... they bring out the not so great in people. Allow me to begin again: Welcome to the me

Thanks Aldar! I have been considering joining an empire to pool points and feel like I am contributing to a greater cause. Let me think on it... Your logo is oddly appealing, it screams simplicity, yet rejects copyright infringment. :D LOL Back OT (sort of): Concerning the improved AI at harder levels, I loved the way my competiters protested a massive military build up next to thier worlds... I felt like they were going to wet themselves. I agree they should feel this w
! Thanks for the laugh mswaim!
There was more where that came from, but I restrained myself from my original witty and potentially much more caustic post. ;) Honestly though, given the open nature of this forum, you would think some people would have more sense. :P Not that I am stuck up and don't know the value of a good swear-word at the appropriate time and place :), but kids do visit. Thanks for the edit Nako! Sedennial, I agree, it is no

Oh please, lets have some level of maturity on this board. Was it really necessary to use profanity in your nickname, much less the message? Simply telling us you are 12 and asking your question would have been sufficient. :notsure: I should not do this, but... type "cheat" into the search box on this website (presuming you are using the website and not Stardock Central), you will see this question has been discussed. Hey, perhaps in the next patch they can translate that obscure "Test status:1 / Error: 0" to "Submitted Succesfully". :) When it fails, "Submission to Metaverse Failed" with an explanation they they may try to submit again from a save game file. Of coarse, if I read Star Pilots post, I would not have posted this... I need to get to bed earlier. Back to work... ;) [Message Edited]

Brad is the owner of Stardock and father of Galactic Civilizations. YOu can find his game play example here: http://www.galciv.com/play.html It is also located in the Encyclopedia (button at top of window) [Thanks, Mayito, I caught it ;) ] [Message Edited]

I've noticed it takes a few minutes to bring up the "Test:1 Error:0" message recently. I've simply clicked "submit" once then hit "Alt-Tab" and went straight to the metaverse to see that it was posted, almost instantly. I'll then return to the game to see the test/error message over the front-end screen. I've only started submiting since the X-pack... the test/error message came up a lot quicker the first time I submitted though.

My experience with that is that the home worlds are really not that close to me, but the other civs expand very quickly (since they know where all the best stars are to begin with). If I am not on my toes, I end up boxed into a very frustrating game where I am economically and technologically behind due to a low population to draw labor, taxes and research from.

When you launch you transport (or colony ship) from a planet a slide will appear in the bottom right corner. Use the slider to adjust the number of troops/colonists loaded onto the transport and click launch. ... Well, I see someone beat me to it! Good luck invading those planets! [Message Edited]

After a drawn out culture/tech battle, I finally finished my first game by by military means and posted to the metaverse. :D Yippee! I mention this only becasue I thought it might not post at all, or at least post as anomolous due to an odd occurance I figured would be picked up as cheating. The issue: I built a terror star up from a military resource mining starbase. As I moved the terror star, the military resource was dragged along with it, even outside the sector. Sh

A more detailed diplomacy model would be nice... not too complex, but I would like to be able to ask "What would you trade for X?" rather than run through all possible combinations of technologies, money, etc... waiting for it to turn green. At the very least allow for counter offers. Drop down sorting menu for the ship, planet and technology panels would help as well. Otherwise, I am having a great time playing. I love the new star graphics and other tweaks and features in t

1.09x versions are beta releases of the expansion pack. Only those who subscribe to Drengin.net were allowed the opportunity of getting a sneak peek. However, tomorrow, September 16, we should all have access to the free expansion pack. Providing you have valid registration of the original product. Hope this helps!

My parents had a similar problem, only it happened when ever they logged into thier XP home account. They use broadband, so as soon as the desktop came up, so did the pop-ups... information was flying to and from thier machine, bogging down the simplest functions like checking e-mail. I ran Spybot and AdAware-- a great combo, took care of the problem. Spybot will also inoculate your machine against other know threats and you can set it to block "bad" webpages from uploading stuff to y

This might apply to your situation, I recall reading similar problems on this forum. If the CD you bought off E-Bay has already been registered under the previous owner's name and e-mali address, then you would not be able to register it under your name. If I recall, the way this has been remedied is by having the previous owner change thier registration info to your e-mali address. I can not recall though, hopefully Stardock tech support can help you further. This may certai

I have not seen any. Though they would be nice to look at, they are pretty much eye candy. Many of the ones we see only run the first time the event takes place, such as first colonization, finding a ship or resource with a survey ship. I did enjoy the ones in Shogun: Total War, although after a while they got repetitive and I knew if my ninja or geisha was going to succeed or fail in the first few seconds of the video.

I have had unihabited sectors show up as mine due to the influence of the surrounding sectors. In fact, I have "owned" sectors that had a star system inhabited by a major race. My surrounding planets were simply more influencial, easing the enculturaion of the neighboring sector and it's star systems. I am sure population must play a role however. I don't know how much...

Hmm... it may be in a later patch that the auto launch was implemented, I have been playing this for only a few weeks and I got the 1.02 patch immediately. Have your roomate grab the latest patch (1.03, I think). As for where to buy it, I recently saw it in a Walmart while traveling through Rockymount, NC, so if it is there I assumed you may be able to find it anywhere in North America, last I checked Canada was a part of N.A. :) Do you have any "Electronic Boutique" in your

Well, if I hear what you are saying, then look for the auto-launch check box on the planetary build screen. The box is on the left hand side under the military production. That being said, you can also select the starship list button (the pyramid of triangles) and sort the vessels by destination. This way, all of the vessels that are in space dock will be grouped together. I hope this helps, if I am off the mark, just ignore me. ;)

Looking at the back of the box, bottom left, I see three icon: Strategy First, Stardock and the Infogrames Armodillo. What part does Infogrames play in the distribution of the product? Just a guess, perhaps Infogrames is responsible for the boxed distribution while Stardock provides the online purchase and support for both. Or, maybe the Armodillo lept off the copy of MoO3 and onto the GalCiv box as I purchased it. :D Bad joke, I know... Actually, I just answered my own q
