Bryce 6.0 save youand be teh bane of Wallpaper moderators.Rendering until you get something "cool" is not a wallpaper. Please, please, please don't punish a mod.
Does that mean I can't post a Bryce render as a wallpaper?? I've started on a wallpaper that I would eventually like to turn into an entire skin and theme, but if Bryce renders are a no no ... then I'll stop now. I can't even post a reply to it myself. Anyone know why that would happen??

D2 .... not sure what you mean. All analog clocks have hands. Few if any of the images for analog clocks to be used in docklets have hands, because Object Dock uses its default hands. However, I hate the default hands, which is why I wanted to use the sysstat clock. I haven't had any problems with widgets, although I am using XP, and no problems with docks, except for the sysstat ones.
Not mine. There is a blank space where the icon should be, and the only way I can get it to work is to create the docklet again, load it, and load the icon. Then, I have to put in the location to get the clock to work. eeeep.
Oh, that's a thought. One problem, however, in that the Sysstat docks do not load on boot. My docks load, but not my sysstat docklets. Wonder why that might be?? Kind of a pain to have to load each one everytime I turn the PC on.
OK .... got it working. I used the world clock and substituted my own graphics. It looks nice. I'm not sure I'll be able to package it as is .... I suppose I can just package the graphics and tell people how to use the world clock and make the changes.
Couldn't help it .... just had to try doing the world clock. I punched in all the location and time zone information ... but the clock isn't actually running. The AM/PM indicator says (null), and the hands are stuck at 10:52. WTF??
Oh .... in addition, I downloaded and installed the Digital TTF that comes with some of the sysstat docklets .... that one won't display either. Really a shame. Ah well, when I get back from the doggie walk, I will try the world clock and see if I can get that to function for me.
Well, it is clear this is going to take some real experimentation. The digital clock settings appear to be VERY particular about the fonts they will or will not display with. I downloaded an LCD type TTF ... won't display at all. Ah, snork. I'm going to go walk the dogs and get the fuzz out of my brain.
I'll look at that. I can get the digital clock to work fine ... but the analog clock is giving me fits. Sad thing is .... I'm supposed to be working. My clients are going to kill me.
Except ... that I'm having trouble getting the clock to actually work. oh rats
You guys know what I found??? SysStats!!! That lets me make my own docklet, and apply my own hands (color and size) ... and I don't have to know anything about programing. Nada ... zip. Happy happy joy joy!! I'm going to have my very own clock docklet to match my other steel dock icons. Dance dance hop hop skip sliiiiiiiiide.
Searched for a clock docklet here .... no joy. Where might "elsewhere" be?? Are there other sites? As you know, I'm really (really) new at this. Heck, I even downloaded the SDK ... but didn't see that it provides you with any real information about how to create a docklet. Sigh.
I prefer using gmail. It's free and no nasty glitches. Plus I can check it anywhere. Wish I could help. But I got rid of AOL. I don't like the company's aggressive tactics.
Oh, crap. So, we're stuck with those big gray hands?? Ick. Double ick. My clock would look ever so much better with nice bright red hands ... and just a wee bit shorter. Crap crap crap. Crap.
I have made a new clock face to go along with my other steel icons. However, I'm not crazy about the default hands that come with the clock docklet that came with object dock. I looked to see if there were any graphics that came with the docklet, other than the clock face, and it appears not. Therefore, I figure that the clock hands must be programed at that size and color. So, is it possible to get into the docklet code and change the RGB information and pixel siz
It's my understanding that Cinema 4D is a pretty pricey program. Especially if you can't purchase it at institutional prices. I do have Icon Developer, and it works very nicely. However, I don't want to render larger than I need to, simply because for my dock icons I'll be uploading them as png files. Or am I wrong in thinking that size would be a problem in that case?? I'm doing about 40 icons and a dock.
Oh gosh, Blender?? You never heard about Blender?? Xiandi ... where have you been? You need to sign up over at Renderosity, you would find out about so many free (and nearly free) programs, it would knock your socks off. I updated the picture .... and except for some very slight edge tweaking, I think it's done. And, once the transparency is up, the edges won't really show up at all against the background (unless someone is really anal and has a completely white blank desktop. Eeee
And who says I'm not goofy?? Eh .... I've been using Bryce for so many years, I'm not sure changing to another render might not just push me over the edge.
Zubaz, you have to edit your reply and I have to correct myself entirely. Apparently I have zero skills in estimating time. Brainiac, Bryce is slow .... but not that slow. I took a stop watch and timed one of the renders. It only took 15 minutes. What is it they say ... a rolling stone never boils?? I'll post the absolutely completely final render after I get back from the Post Office.
Also, before anyone else thinks to mention it .... as I look at the new render (on the right), I think the outer edges are a little too rough, so I am fixing that as well. But on the whole .... I think it looks better.
Bryce is notorious for very long renders. I've had renders that took days. Also, Bryce does not have HDRI. In order to get an effect that is something like HDRI, you have to jump through some hoops, and the render time is really increased. Of course, Bryce is also a much cheaper program. So .... you work with what you have until you can get something else. In any event, I think I found the solution to my steel rim problem (in a dream last night no less ... and yes, I someti
That's a great idea. If someone else did a dock icon, then they must have access to the original icon. Duh .... why didn't I think of that? Still pondering how I'm going to get the effect I want on the metal, if I turn up the reflectivity, then I lose the brushed look, but if I turn off the reflectivity, I also lose a lot of the dimension .... grrrrrrr. You watch ... this will make me so crazy, I'll have to ask for Cinema 4D for my birthday.
Thanks, Zubaz. Yes ... the eventual finished product will be a on a transparent background with a drop shadow. This is just the primary render, and I don't want to go any further than that until I have all (and I do mean all) the kinks worked out. I know what you mean about the metal not being well defined. I was trying for a brushed metal look, one that would have a light interaction, but with very little reflection. However, I'm working with Bryce (which has limited lighting effec
