Which is why I guess I was surprized when I realized that Tiggs' wallpaper was in PNG format. So, I guess it's ok if I just use that??I hate PNG, more often than not Windows won't apply it. I have to end up opening PS and saving it as jpg.
OK ... so that's odd. Windows has no trouble applying PNGs for me. Is there anything consistent about the world these days??
OK .... I'm used to calling and thinking of Raster files as .... well, Raster files. And, while I'd call a BMP a Bitmap ... I'd probably call a JPG a "J-PEG" and not a Bitmap.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raster_graphicsI also call BMP, bitmap, and JPG, j-peg, but I don't call PNG, ping, I call it P-N-G........
Yup .... so do I.

OK .... I'm used to calling and thinking of Raster files as .... well, Raster files. And, while I'd call a BMP a Bitmap ... I'd probably call a JPG a "J-PEG" and not a Bitmap. But then, clearly I'm an ignoramous in this regard. So the terms Bitmap and Raster are completely interchangeable?? Is there a term for Vector image that works the same way?? And, if any bitmap file may be uploaded, then why not make the form much (much) clearer and note that the site perfers JPG image

Oh, I get tons and tons of critical commentary at Renderosity, but that's because everything shows up in the main gallery so most everyone sees it ... and can offer ways to make it better, or diss it as complete crap, or blow smoke up the artist's hiney. I'll probably leave the rejected stuff up for a few days and then trash it. I like to keep my personal spaces trimmed. I go through my Renderosity gallery from time to time and clean out the dreck from there as well. And I wil

Yes, I figured I had earned my first PPE award. But, I found it very (very) odd that I would get an "accepted" email when the piece hadn't been accepted. I guess this just goes on par with the form that says upload as a BMP when you are never supposed to upload BMPs. One of those things you learn as you muddle along. I'll keep at it, although I'll more or less the accepted emails from now on. I'll post the wallpapers to my gallery at Renderosity for the critical commentary a

So, I submitted my very first wallpaper to the main gallery. I got an email that it had been accepted, but noticed that it never went into the main gallery, it's just in my personal gallery. I would assume that that would mean it was rejected for the main gallery. Or do they send you an accepted email when your wallpaper is rejected?? I'm completely confused at this point. I'd like to be a little clearer on the concept before I create and submit a bunch of st

I could have sworn I downloaded some that were PNG, but the upload information says (or seems to say) that you are supposed to zip up your wallpaper as a BMP. I'm wondering because I'm under the impression that PNG is lossless and it takes up a lot less space than a BMP. Anyone know for sure??

Did I screw up when I uploaded it?? Someone's got to set me straight. I haven't a clue what I'm doing here. Erg ... well, here's another link. Maybe you can get it here ... that is if you really like it. I would be nice if somebody liked it. The cats think it's crap, but then they think all of my artwork is crap. In fact, they think anything without a Fancy Feast label on it is crap. [link="http://rickymaveety.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=35986&libid=8"]WWW Link[/li

Thank you, Skinhit. I got it. And, you are right, your icons would look really good with the Apocolyptic Kitty. I did submit a wallpaper today. It wasn't the kitty ... it was sort of a Tim Burton style thingie. It's sort of odd .... I got an upload notice that it had been accepted (or something like that), but it never appeared in the main gallery, so I guess I now qualify for a PPE award. Anyone wants to take a look at it and razz me to death about it ... here's the link:<

Well now, sometimes abstract features can be combined with traditional features to get something that looks really interesting. Granted, there aren't a whole lot of purely abstract pieces that I'm partial to (or, rather "to which I am partial" ... mom was an English teacher for a while in her youth). I used Contextfree to make some trees for my first submission to the gallery today. Of course, it probably won't be selected to go in the gallery, but hey, I like it.

Xscorpx .... nice thought, but I did adding text in the box. Quite a lot of text actually. It just never showed up in the post. And, on top of that, when I tried to edit the post and put the text in (again), the system would not allow it. And .... when I tried to reply to the message (to add the text that way), again, the system would not allow it. Not certain what you mean by "next time *runs*" .... but, the system screwing my post up was not an age thing. Not being able to find t

But I hate Vista with a passion that knows no bounds!! I'd rather have no one download my crappy little attempt at wallpaper than pimp myself out to do (shudder) a Vista logon just to get people to download my XP stuff. ;)

Oh, now I see how it works. You submit your wallpaper and it either goes to the main gallery where everyone can see it an download it, or it is relegated to your personal page. Learn something new every day. What do you want to bet that my effort ends up with a PPE award??

Well .... at least this one is working. I started on a wallpaper, and had some questions about resolution and such. However, I read in another post something that makes me think that Bryce renders are frowned upon as wallpaper. Is that true? If so, can anyone tell me why?? This is a small version of what I'm working on. Eventually, I'd like to turn it into a whole skin ... that's as I learn what the heck I'm doing. Would this (in general) be an acceptable wallpap
