I didn't say it was cheating. All the devs say it's not cheating and are so proud of it, so I'll believe it. I wanted to know how an enemy did something that doesn't seem possible. What's the explanation for the behavior? Sensor coverage has a hard limit of 15 squares. The enemy was well beyond that range, yet they instantly knew that a new target was there. In the very next turn, they started moving towards it. I'm sorry it's mad
mikeswi
Dammit. Fix the edit function. Four sectors away was where they killed the survey ship, not two.
The AI doesn't cheat eh? Then explain this please. I went on in this post about how the Dread Lord AI becomes psychotically obsessed with starbases, to the point that they redeploy every single warship they have in the galaxy towards that base. https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=162&AID=111194 Now.... I was playing a new game tonight, Dread Lords on parade. I had only Earth and Mars and my economy was in the crapper, so I had
Well darn it. After quitting and restarting, suddenly they ARE faster. I guess this should be filed as a bug, since I can't imagine you're *supposed* to have to restart before it takes effect. I'm running the beta 2 that just came out.
I paid the Iconians 2,500 bc for the Gravity Accelerator trade good and the speed of my warships has NOT gone up. Not my new ones, not my old ones. My freighters are faster, but who friggin cares? What is that about? I thought that increased the base speed of ALL ships by +1.
With the exception of the Akilians, I tend to leave them alone. The Akilians have an annoying tendency to drop influence bases next to my homeworld, for which the punishment is DEATH. I'm going to be editing them out of the XML file soon anyway. The other ones... I like trading with them. They usually have pretty good economies, they usually have pretty good tech to trade for and I can go to war with the major races without losing a trading
I think he meant SPIN Control center. It's a planetary improvement that makes the ships orbiting a planet look vastly more powerful. Basically, you need warships. Either a whole horde of useless cannon fodder or a respectable size number of very good ships. Either way, you have to make sure you have the warships to protect your empire. Even if you have no intention of using them offensively, you have to have them. Otherwise, the
Well, I can't send a debug. I finished that game and went on to another already. The Iconian fleet that had my fighter was about 1/4 of the way across the galaxy (huge galaxy setting) when it first started to autofocus to that location. I can't honestly remember if I was attacking ships in orbit at that moment, but I don't think I was. I had just taken two planets from them.... and now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure I was
The closest you can get to that is to supply warships to their enemies. I usually have good relations with the Drengin because of my military strength, plus I don't want to lose the trade routes. I also don't want a galaxy with just me and the Drengin, so I usually end up supplying massive fleets of dreadnoughts to the Altarians and let the two of them go at each other all they want.
Okay.... just a temporary glitch. I started a new game, cheated to research lasers right off and then looked in the shipyard. Lasers were available.
No, that didn't happen. I slaughtered the Iconians in every single engagement and they took -nothing- away from me. I had a major tech advantage over them in this game.
Seems to be a bug in how it detects the weaponry of a Lucky Ranger. It's got three Droid Sentry modules which don't show up when you look at its attack/defense numbers. GalCiv2_110_beta_032406.exe
Sorry. Meant to say, I'm running the beta GalCiv2_110_beta_032406.exe
Something really screwy just happened. I got into a fight with an Iconian fleet, and somehow they had one of my fighters! I had JUST designed it, like ten turns before, because the Iconians declared war on me out of nowhere. I sure as heck didn't give it to them and none of mine were missing (I don't think). It was WAY more advanced than anything they had and they couldn't possibly have built it themselves. No, they didn't take any worlds w
O_o You lost me. And bear in mind that I flunked 8th grade algebra, so figuring up ratios isn't my strong suit. Because the frigate's attack strength greatly outweighed its defenses, that's why it was attacked first? Even though it was still tougher than any three of its escorts, it was attacked because I put too many weapons on it? So.... errr..... What sort of fleet do I need to design to where the escorts are attacked first? My
Running GalCiv2_110_beta_032406.exe I just started a game as the Drengin Empire. Where the heck are my weapons?? I researched as far as lasers and went to design a ship to start a ...... "peacekeeping mission". There are no weapons available! A Star Fury is available in the shipyard, and that's armed with lasers. What's going on here? I see a whole bunch of errors in the debug file: Debug Message: Error. String Not Fou
You can archive the installer? I wish I'd known that. Even over DSL it takes forever to download. About your dialup, you could be running up against a time limit. Most ISPs will cut your dialup connection every 5 or 6 hours regardless of whether or not you're using it. It lets them oversell their server modems. British Telecom will do it every TWO hours. It's also false advertising, because they claim "unlimited access", but that'
It finally dawned on me why fighters are attacked before capital ships. I thought it was either a bug or just ignorant combat tactics, but no, I get it now. The fighters aren't there to fill out the logistical points - they're there as ESCORTS. You have to blast your way past the escorts before you can get to the capital ship. I GET that now. Fine. Now I can put together more balanced fleets. Anyway... Something went wrong in a battle I jus
I have the GalCiv2_110_beta_032406.exe beta. Don't know if that's the latest or not. The Dread Lords AI needs a serious tune up (on the Dread Lords on Parade scenario). On beginner level, they never leave Amalda, except to scout. Years and years went by until finally everyone had so much tech that they couldn't possibly have beaten anybody. That was boring, so I restarted with it set to "Normal". Major, big time differ
Thanks. I'll try it. If it does cause a crash, I'll post back. Of course, it crashes so often, I may not notice a difference.
I'm running the beta, which I think is the newest. GalCiv2_110_beta_032406 I hate to say this, but you have completely ruined the economy starbases in the beta. I mean .... completely trashed the concept and utterly defeated the entire purpose of having those bases in the first place. Charging me for all production boosted by the bases?? I'm losing trillions of credits just to do research, nevermind that I go bankrupt every time
Is there a file I can edit that will let me delete the Akilians? I don't want to turn off the minor races .... except for them. They continually spam my space with influence bases, continually complain about my military build up, continually make a pain in the ass of themselves. No other minor race does this and I'm constantly at war with them because that's the only way to remove their stupid bases.
Agreed. Let's have them lose their constructor module and have to go to a planet for another one, not lose the ship entirely. A military base can have as many as 61 modules, once you've researched all the weapons/starbase techs.
That is the biggest single frustration I have with this game, that it is constantly jerking the camera around to where I don't want it. For crissake, if I want to look at that ship, I'd have moved the camera there myself.
I did this once. I put a trade module on a medium hull, then loaded it with defenses and one harpoon missile launcher. The enemy seemed to learn pretty quickly to leave my merchants alone. Don't know why it didn't occur to me to make armed constructors. I'll start doing that too.
