Report New WinCustomize Bugs and Other Issues

While we have worked very hard to make the new site error free there are always a issue here and there that were simply missed.  So this is the place that we would like you to submit site issues to. 

Please take the time to read through items that have already been submitted so that you are not duplicating issues.   This will make it much easier for us in determining new or old bugs.

Also, when reporting a problem its very important that you include the URL to the page where the problem occured.  Also be as descriptive as possible.  And if it is a display issue please be sure to include what browser you are running and its version.

Well guys, I had a nice lenghty reply addressing everyone individually, but sadly I clicked on Bebi's screenshot and it loaded the dang thing in teh same window, so I lost all of it. As I dont have another buncho minutes today to redo it, im just gonna blanket everyone with one statement..

I've had a look at everyone's replies to my last mammoth reply. I can verify most of the issues reported. Thanks to those who clarified what they were reporting. Thanks to those who posted steps to reproduce. THanks for the screenshots. If you are having connection problems with the website, most of the serious issues causing slowness have been resolved; be sure to do a 'tracert www.wincustomize.com' from a command prompt to see if you are having connection or routing issues between your computer and the wincustomize.com server. If you see any hops over 150ms then theres a good chance theres some routing issues.

Well... the Wincustomize Gallery Button issue is back... It says page cannot be displayed everytime I click the Gallery Button. I understand this is a new site and all, but maybe the old site might of been a good idea for a little while longer while the team responsible for WC2K7 worked out the bugs further.

Update -

Some other buttons are broken and give 404.

We were having some temporary issues and a few servers (one of which controls some of our DNS entries) had to be restarted. If you're getting 'Page cannot be displayed' it's because the site is unreachable - it's not an issue with the website itself, but rather your connection or the server that the website is located on. Statements like the one I quoted above are really counter-productive, and arent really constructive.

Sorry andrew! I personally hate that too. Maybe it would be as good idea to make links in posts open in a new window? Usually I forget it opens in the same window here and thus forget to use my "open link in new tab" option. >_< Just another of my myriad of ideas.

I'm getting a strange error when viewing the articles.

I'm not sure what's going on, I just went into the Articles section, typed objectdock in the search, changed the view to Featured Articles, and starting going through the results and near the bottom the page just breaks. I'm guessing because there's just way too much info to be displayed? I really don't know.

Now if I switch it from Features Articles in the dropbox to Featured Articles List, the links are screwy. They show up like this:

Then you click on it and it takes you to this: https://www.wincustomize.com/%5Carticles.aspx?aid=138081

The same thing happens on someone's personal page viewing a list of their articles (example).

Speaking of the Articles section, is there no way to just *list* all the articles, instead of having to decide between newest and featured?

If I go to the Top Skinners section of the main gallery, the drop down menu only offers the option of "All LIbraries" as compared to the ability to select a particular library as was the case a day or so ago.

In another post, Fairyy had mentioned that when she checked 'remove' on her skin watchlist, all of the skins in the watchlist dissappeared for her. Im following up with that report...

Fairyy: Which tab of the watchlist were you on when you did this? The Skins tab or the Skin Authors tab? I will buy you a pony if you can increase the amount of detail that you're able to provide us with when posting on an issue. It's very difficult to correctly diagnose problems with the website unless our faithful and appreciated users can give us the tasty tidbits we need. Details, details, details!

I have tested that the Skins tab correctly removes individual skins from the watchlist.

I have tested that the Skin Authors tab also correctly removes skin authors from the watchlist. Perhaps you were on this tab and saw how it behaves and it was unexpected. When you remove an author from your Skin Author watchlist tab, it removes all skins by that author (since you are no longer watching the author). If you have skins by that author, that you are individually watching on the Skins tab, they will remain viewable on that tab. The Skin Authors tab displays the last few skins that an author uploaded or updated. It does not display individual skins.

This is the same behavior for the Articles and Article Authors tabs, but with regard to Articles, not skins.

This is what I posted on the other thread:

I had 3 ' skins ' on watch list skin tab- I checked off one - hit remove and they all were removed. I just checked and they are still gone.
Articles are all still there.

That will be a white pony by the end of the day...

I deal in details. It's how I maintain sanity. 'skin' isnt equal to 'Skins', hence the follow up question.

Try as I might, I cannot duplicate that problem. If that's something that you see consistantly, please send me an email with your login information and I will attempt to reproduce it using your account. Part of me wonders if you didnt hit the checkbox at the top of the list which selects all skins... Just in case that was what happened, I'll have George put a message box in there for good measure.

when using firefox 2.0.0.1, i.e.7, and netscape 7, if i go to my settings and change my Web Viewing Options to 12 skins per page, my browsing still only shows 8 per page. i can clear all cookies, temp files, the number of skins per page still remains at 8

I was only using the watch " Skins " option to be notified if that skin had any updates ( comments ) that was before you fixed the " New Comments "

So the one I deleted was my own skin I had added to watch list - its possible that the box that selects 'all' got checked off even though I selected the middle skin for removal.

Can I have my "OLD" cookies back?
First I'm logged in and then I'm not.
Then I get adds all over the place, even though I'm logged in.
Then the adds disappear and then come back, again.
I have the sections set to have 24 showing at one time, then it goes to 8 and all the adds are back.

Man, I miss the old cookies. Didn't have to re-log-in (and everything stayed the same) for at least a week.
Now, about every 5 min........

This is an answer you give a "newbie", who just got thier first computer.
I've been around for years. This is a no brainer.
I clear everything out each time I come to the site, hoping the cookies might one day work.
My previous comment is what happens right after I log-in.

(example) This is all done about the first 3 min. I'm here.

Clean everything. Including cookies.
Come to the site.
Log-in. Everything is fine.
Click Windowblinds section. Adds everywhere. Doesn't recognize me as Master. Just Z71.
Come back to the front page. News that was there for the day is now gone. More adds.
Now, I go back to Windowblinds section. Even more adds. Click on a Windowblind. Can't make comments because I'm not logged in. Even though it says I am at the top.

I'm just bringing this to your attention, so you might look into it.
I know the site will have bugs for a while. That's why I posted this in this thread.

WindowXP, SP2 and IE7.

I've been noticing something weird on user profiles who haven't set up their personal site (aside from the missing library icons which still seems to be present). They all have the same links categories: Jax-M, ArtCombine, and GTASpider.

Example 1
Example 2
Example 3

And so on. Just thought it was odd (and wonder what those categories mean anyway o_O).

Z71, I'm sorry, but that's something that I'm not able to reproduce at the moment. Do you have these issues on other stardock websites? Or is this relegated to www.wincustomize.com or the personal sites, or ?

It happens on wincustomize and the personal pages. Forums are fine, for now.
I hardly use the forums, so of course they are working fine. My luck.
I uploaded my BluNite WB5 skin yesterday and I had to log-in, went to the submit skin section part and it didn't recognize me. Told me to create an account. So, I had to log-out and log-in again before I could even upload. Took about 4 tries but it finally recognized me. And yes, I cleaned everything (including cookies) each time, to try to fix it.

I can't be the only one this is happening to.
I even downloaded Firefox to see if that would help. No such luck.
The adds and not keeping my settings are starting to be a pain.
If anyone knows me, I usually don't complain. (That means you're put on the blacklist of complainers). I don't like to be that way. It's just annoying.

andrew, what are you running and what browser do you use, that all this is working fine?

I haven't been able to see images in the new skin notification emails, the last one that had the images was from Jan 10 2007. The forum and article watch emails still display images.

I don't believe the referrals are working since the change over. Also every time I upload a wall, rainy, screensaver ect., it says that I am #1 in downloads for that category until it has passed moderation and put up on the site. I have noticed the same thing on others pages as well.

Bebi, Thanks for the screenshot. I looks like the css is being loaded but outlook is failing to download the images. The position, font details and color all look ok. It's not something I can produce locally. And I've personally tested that the emails show up in Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, Outlook, Outlook Express and Thunderbird. It's possible that there's an issue with them, that only your system is bringing out (or so far reported.) If you find out what the issue is, Please let me know. If its something we can fix, we will

Z71, I didnt mean to make you feel singled out in any way. When I mention the frequency (or lack thereof) of an issue and how often it's reported, I do so only to make sure the users understand its not something we're simply ignoring. We definately haven't had those kind of login problems reported as of yet. At home I was having similiar issues with a few websites; that is, I was having sporatic problems with links and viewing certain pages and I couldnt really make any sense out of it. My solution, while it may not apply at all to this situation, was that I had to completely kill all temporary folders and files on my system. Uninstall Firefox and hunt down and delete all of the files and folders that it creates, but doesnt uninstall. (It creates a lot of files and folders for 'your profile' and doesnt remove them, nor as to, on uninstall, and from what I can tell, it was those files that were messing it all up)

Here at the office we use the latest version of Firefox and Opera, IE6 and IE7. I also use IE7 at home and have not had any issues. I'll keep my eyes open and on the issue, but we're having a heck of a hard time trying to reproduce that problem.
