Report New WinCustomize Bugs and Other Issues

While we have worked very hard to make the new site error free there are always a issue here and there that were simply missed.  So this is the place that we would like you to submit site issues to.

Please take the time to read through items that have already been submitted so that you are not duplicating issues.   This will make it much easier for us in determining new or old bugs.

Also, when reporting a problem its very important that you include the URL to the page where the problem occured.  Also be as descriptive as possible.  And if it is a display issue please be sure to include what browser you are running and its version.

IE7 is giving me odd login problems. I go to the forum and I'm logged in ok, I go back to the home page and I'm not logged in:-

I've noticed the same w/ IE7, but no consistency that I can see...sometimes I'm logged in, other times not - have yet to discern a pattern...

Re: #3: just view the skin you want to add and under the description below where it shows how many comments there are and stuff, there is an Add to Favorites link

You are right, bebi...I tried a bunch from one artist, and got the same error every time, but when I changed to another artist, no problem at all...for the record, Kenwas wallpapers cannot be added as a favorite? Anyone else have this problem with his walls?

Not sure if this was reported yet. The amount of replies keeps changing on some articles. For example...the news report about "WGA Flags 22% of Windows Installs Invalid"...Before I posted a reply the count was 4...even though there was actually 5 posts...then it changed to 3 replies...even though there were now 6.

Tsk....Tsk..... WG that goes into the "Forum" bug thread. I wouldn't want you to get into hock with Andrew.

I had reported the buggy thread states earlier. I noticed the icons don't update correctly either.

Everything is looking good right now. I stay logged in, it's fast, and not many bugs left. The only one I'm seeing right now is on News and Articles, on comments the poster's Honorific is not in parentheses and greyed out like they are on the rest of the site.

This just started happening to me too - but in FF. I log in the im not logged in.

Zubaz: I tried logging in using Fairyy~ instead of email addy - either works to log in but FF will not remember the info next time i come back to log in I have to still add in a nickname even though I saved the info.

Fairry  With all respect here, I've addressed your awards issue twice now. PLEASE refrain from pasting in the list of duplicate award items. We know the issue exists and we are looking into it. Continuing to 'remind' us that the issue exists will not aid us in resolving it any faster.

dwax I would reccomend opening up a command prompt and using 'tracert www.wincustomize.com'. The overall response from users on the site is that it runs faster than the old. If youre experiencing slow load times its most likely due to a temporary database issue or your connection.

cj woodfill I'll continue to attempt to duplicate the issue here, but I havent had any luck so far. It sounds like it might be more an issue with Firefox than the website. If you can come up with a set of steps in which you can reliably reproduce the issue, I would be very interested in that

1. No downloads for the day showing (as noted on other posts above)
2. No total comments shown, and especially no new comments being shown...I really miss that.

Yes, these have been addressed in several posts in the forums.

Well...I thought you had me in the right direction, but when I click on the "add to favorites" link, it gives a fancy WC HTTP 404 - File not found error...I can download the skin, though, so it DOES exist! I never initially had a "favorite skin", and the one it gave me was not even one I had ever seen, let alone downloaded and assigned as a favorite...hhmmmmm.

Brokensquare Can you please reply with the URL of the skin that you are attempting to make a favorite?

FuzzyLogic I'm seeing a very bizzare layout issue in that screenshot portion you replied with. You should never see that login box in the upper right hand corner on the forums. Try clearing out IE7's temporary internet files.

arcturus13 I'm not quite sure what you were trying to convey by replying with the text from some else's article...

WebGizmos Lantec is correct, Your reply belongs on the forum bug thread post. We've addressed this particular oddity in the past... those values are calculated by the database and every now and then it'll jump, have a glitch, or the post (and/or its replies) will be edited by someone and the values will be off until the next time the db refreshes the data. Please hang on to this information for future reference.

Lantec Try as I might I cannot duplicate the problem with the post icons. My best guess is that your browser is hanging on to cache incorrectly.

To the others having log in issues with Firefox...

It seems that everyone is using their own kind of terminology for what steps they are taking in order to arrive at a 'bug' with the login. This is making it very hard to descerne exactly what could be causing the issue or what is actually leading up to it. Firefox is proving to be hugely inconsistant between users in this regard. While the majority of Firefox users (including us developers here at the office) arent seeing any issues with the site, there are a small number of uses who are. And between the number of users who are getting issues with Firefox, the odd behavior is even inconsistant between them.

If you are having log in problems with Firefox and would like to help us solve the issue, please reply with a numbered list of exactly what steps you are taking. Instead of saying something like 'I put in the nickname' try to word it such like 'I entered my nickname in the nickname textbox' or some such. Please try to be as specific and non-general as humanly possible.

I think the screenshot could have been misleading. The top half of it is from the front page, the bottom half is from the forum. It does this on my work pc also, though today, my home pc is behaving normally.

It's a random effect which has me logged on in the forum but logged out everywhere else.

Strangely (looking at the posts here) I'm not having any issues with Firefox!

Well if you have answered me about it - I've never seen it...or I wouldn't have pasted it twice. You answered me about the duplicate favorites that I couldn't delete.

The forum doesn't always bring me back to where I last read something.

Why is it you can spell everyone else's User name correctly but mine?

its Fairyy

Well I stand corrected- reply # 98 you said at the bottom " we are aware of your awards issue and are looking into it "

Well slap me silly...This "Report New WinCustomize Bugs and Other Issues" topic was just to confusing then. I wasn't even aware there was a forum bug thread (should be pinned at the top of the forums)...must have been buried or something. But I should be flogged!

had the "create your site" button magically appear today, and it wouldn't let me into my (all ready created long ago) site. Yet when I clicked on the button it took me to the settings for the old site. Bug has just as magically vanished now.

Every time I press the button to add a skin to my favorites, a window pops up and tells gives me the old 404 site cant be found...now although this 404 is much more colorful (and contains winky)... it still means the same thing. Haven't been able to add any new favorites at all.

But I should be flogged!

The floggings will continue until morale improves!

Oh....and for the record...I wasn't officially in the forums when this happened...this was on the homepage.

The above quote is the same error I get...url to follow as requested!

http://kenwas.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=19515&libid=8

Andrew: Wasn't sure which link you need so the first is the download page, & the second link is the actual error page...Later I tried another artist, & was able to get it to work, but none of Kenwas's work would work for me...*shrug*

arcturus13 I'm not quite sure what you were trying to convey by replying with the text from some else's article...

All the text of my reply was my own. Only the title of the other post was put forth. I believed the information in that post was similar enough to the problems being reported on this post that I wanted to make sure they were noted. The only person from Stardock who had made an reply on that post at that point was Frogboy, who asked for more details about the problems being reported there. At least 8 people had replied on that post (including, I believe, 4 who have also replied on this post), giving details of what they have experienced.

All seem to be talking about a problem that I can't find discussed on this post - page loading times, mostly using Firefox. The main mention of FF on this post is about "logins". I thought perhaps this was a separate problem, and should be noted on this post where it was asking for "bugs and other issues".

Frogboy has just replied on that post:

I acutally don't think the difference is browsers but rather something to do with IIS and the database.
My theory is that it's IIS. What's happening is that the new WinCustomize is basically a web application and that IIS is crashing regularly. If you happen to be on the site when it's restarting itself you're waiting 30 seconds for a page to come up. Otherwise, it's really fast.

I think the site is great, and I am only trying to help where and if I can.

Ok I was bored and decided to make a mockup of one of my previous comments about the placement of library icons (basically, they're really hard to see when placed on top of the screenshots).

Here are my ideas:

Much easier to notice with the different placement. Not even sure if you're considering moving them or not, but there it is anyway.

I'm not having a problem with FireFox (i don't think) but I am having a problem trying to submit a screen shot! When the new site came into being I just clicked submit and all was well but in the past week or so I get 'Welcome Guest! Please take the time to register with us' and as far as I can see I already am! I have tried to log out and log back in and I get the right submit page but then it's right back to 'Welcome Guest! Please take the time to register with us'. Am I doing something wrong or is it the site?

Personal page keeps doing different stuff...like yesterday (see above) got the "Create Your Personal Site" button (which I all ready had) and when I clicked on it I got the preferences for my site that was supposed to be there (and had been for a year) ...then today, when I click on my "site" link...get a message wanting me to create my stardock account...I mean, I can still submit and all, just can't get to my site.

I can get to my site but can't submit.

http://gallery.wincustomize.com is borked. Wincustomize Error everytime I click it.

Additionally the ads are back on the main page, and I cant access my personal page in its entirety.

The Create Your Site Now! button is on the home page even though I have a site.

here are the steps that i have taken:

1. when first comming to the site, i noticed that my original login information was not in the Nickname/Password fields.
2. opened the password options in firefox 2 and removed the password in that was there for this site.
3. closed and reopend firefox and came to the site. typed in my nickname and password in the login fields.
4. when prompted by firefox to remember the password info, selected remember.
5. after leaving the site, and comming back, found that my loginfo was not there, instead it had Nickname and *******.
6. opened the password options in forefox to make sure that my password info was there and it was.

i have firefox set to remove cookies when closing the browser closes. if you need screenshots of my firefox config, just tell me where to send them
