NLCs don't upgrade invention matrixes or discovery spheres. Which is a pain, but not a big one. However, it's screwing up the AI too. I just had a game where the Arceans aligned neutral AFTER they had invention matrix already, so they never built any NLCs.

What is your favorite strategy for eventually ending the game with a win and on what difficulty level? I know some people like to start trouble as soon as they research the invasion techs and just pick off everybody as quickly as possible. For me personally, I don't ally with anyone and try to avoid getting dragged into wars as much possible while I build the infrastructure on my colonies and researching as far up a weapon line as possible. I only go to war when and if so

I liked "Normal" before they nerfed it in 1.1. Now it might as well be "cake walk" for all the trouble the AI gives me. To answer the original question, the first level where the AI gives me trouble is "challenging". It's still fairly easy, but they put up a decent fight. I'm settled on "tough" for the moment. It's a fair fight as far as economy and bonuses and I don't like a game where the AI has extra bonuses over me. I'll move up if and when "tough" starts getting too

You might want to complain to Amazon, if it turns out that box is used. There's never any telling what situation they'll care about which ones they won't, but I doubt they'll like the idea of a fraudulent seller using their service.

I wouldn't say stronger. Supposedly the war lasted thousands of years, so they must have been evenly matched until one of them got lucky in the end.

They used to be able to invade and take planets, but then they got nerfed somewhere along the line of patches. Not sure why. They used to be fairly dangerous if one of the majors declared war on them.

My AI opponents seem to have issues about building farms in 1.2. In some earlier builds, they overbuilt farms; in this one, I rarely see them. Many of their class 15+ planets remain stuck at 5 billion population for most of the game. Has anyone else seen this? Me too. I used to use tidal disruptors when invading cockroaches

Christ people, no need to pull out the flamethrower. Settle down. IMHO Eyes is broken too. It is just too powerful and hugely undervalued by the AI. I'd love to see what your response was if the AI always got to it first. If that happened, I'd just pack as many Sensor IV's as possible on an unarmed fighter and fleet it up with the w

I disagree with the whole idea. Everything seems well balanced to me already. Eyes of the universe gives you maximum sensor range without any sensor modules, so there's no point limiting them. Nobody uses them anyway. Life support range is already capped at a hard limit. To be perfectly honest, I wish it weren't. Pain in the ass on a gigantic map. Why would you make smaller ships slower than larger ships? A lot of us like escorting our transports. Capping their

Sounds like you need to bump up the habitable planets setting a notch. As for the Torians.... That's what they do, unless the Drengin knock them out early. Little green SOBs breed like maggots, so they can get away with rushing out more colony ships than anybody else.

Since my last post in this thread, I have seen an AI come back from the brink. The Altarians declared war on the Korx, who started in a bad spot and only had 4 or 5 planets colonized. The Altarians had maybe 2 dozen planets and a huge military. Somehow, amazingly, the Korx absolutely whomped the Altarians and took their whole empire, minus the last 2 planets which they surrendered to the Iconians. I don't know how the hell they did it.

I downloaded it a while ago, but I've never really used it. If it could generate a map with randomly-placed stars/planets and let me edit the results, it would be a lot more useful (for me). As far as I can tell, all I'm able to do is create a map one star and one planet at a time.

You're going to get negative feedback on it no matter what. When people see something they don't like, they make a post about it. When they see something they do like, it doesn't occur to them to post that they like it. That's why the majority of posts are from people griping about something. Being able to show off the MV medals is very nice. Having direct contact with the people writing the game's code is also very nice. It sounds like you just need to get some more moderators to dea

You don't really notice the effects until you have manufacturing centers researched and install the two modules that come with that. The upgrades you get on the less-advanced techs are helpful, but not dramatic.

It depends on the galaxy settings. Depending on how you set it up, most stars could have planets, habitable or otherwise. Stellar cartography really isn't useful in that situation because it doesn't show which ones are useable. If it's set to rare or uncommon or something, then it becomes more important, since more stars would have no planets at all and you don't want to waste time exploring those.

I agree that this msg board software is a little weird, compared to what most sites use. It took me a while to get used to it. The only thing I really like about it is the medals. I wouldn't want to see it shut down though. I don't know what the expense is in keeping it up or how big it is. I have a feeling most of the headache is in the fact that it's custom-built and having to chase down bugs. Maybe it would be easier and cheaper to switch to Invision Board and have it h

I think it depends on the difficulty level. I play regular games on "tough" and they build on most of the tiles of every world. I play the Dread Lords scenario on "normal" and the regular civs hardly build anything at all. I think it's just that they don't have the money to build as much as they'd like, since their economy is capped below "tough".

5 Replies 4,948 Views

Yeah. Whoever has it and everyone who trades for it gets the bonuses of it. If you invade a planet that has it, that means you can now trade it yourself.

The food production capacity of a former and new home world is getting mixed up. I invaded someone who was down to their last 2 planets. I hit the home world first, so the other planet became the "civilization capital". The former home world became a regular colony, but it kept the 10mt food production capacity of a "civilization capital" instead of the normal 5mt of a regular colony. The new home world never updated to have 10mt food production. So I built a farm on that
