it's both figurative and literal. Basically the key to knowing comes down to this: "If it makes sense, seek no other sense." So if it makes sense to be used literally, do so. If not, the symbol has to stand for something and usually the key can be found elsewhere in scripture.

@Heigar..that's sort of how it was at our house. I was pushing the books and limiting, basically for us, what would have been TV time since we really didn't do anything via computers in those days. In HS it got harder with the books tho because even tho we didn't have computer access they were all busy with their sports, which is still better than sitting home in front of some screen be it computer or TV.
