The slim version of the PDF is still insanely slow on my iPad 3. I would definitely be interested in finding out more about this game. I appreciate the creation of the "slim" version. However, it still renders so slowly that it is just absolutely painful.

That's really weird, I tested it on an iPad in the office (a 2 I think) and it was super speedy :(  it's going to be going online shortly in an even more accessible (hopefully) format... so keep your eyes peeled :)  hope to have it up in the next few days

and here it is, we tried making a 'kindle' specific version but it did not come out well... this 'slim' version seems to look and function well on tablets (and slower computers).

Speaking to my friend yesterday, I told him I could not figure out any reason I might want the new processor in the latest Apple iPad 4. Color me very surprised to learn I might need the extra computational power just to view a PDF document. The slim version appears to render about 10x faster than the original PDF. However, even at 10x, I'd much prefer one with the graphics just entirely stripped out so I can go from page to page without waiting for each page to render. Thanks!

How does this function for you? https://www.elementalgame.com/hiergamenon

We are gonna get the manual online in a similar format soon (with some improvements)

This is quite, quite wonderful. This one is excellent. The text and formatting and presentation are awesome.

On my iPad, the pages render extremely quickly. It is challenging turning pages on the iPad. But once I get it to turn, it shows quite well on the iPad.

This is so beautiful, I am viewing it on my PC a bit. The page turn effect is incredible. Thank you for the link. This is extremely well done!

Thanks!

You made some awesome improvements to the Hiergamenon since I saw it online last. Much easier to read, more responsive, and no annoying scrollbar issues. Kudos to the devs that made this much better!

Having the manual in this format would be sweet. If you're open to suggestions, the ability to search/find in there would be good, but I'm not sure if the text is treated like a font that's actually searchable behind the scenes. Using the Find in Firefox gives me nothing.

THX!

EDIT* nvm it was just IE being meh

I think the description of Sovreigns and Factions in the manual may be at times confusing. Often times, what is listed under the Sovereing is actually a bonus for the Faction. Further, the list of spells is probably unnecessary and repetitive. I think it would be very useful, especially for those who have never played FE, to have a comparison table, where bonuses are grouped not according to where they come from, but according to what they affect. To give an example of what I mean, here is a table I have made in XL (the formatting is quite ugly when pasted :/ )

Faction Sovereign spell skills Sovereign specifics Unit bonus/malus New Units Faction Equipment (*) Others
ALTAR Air Disciple
Fire Apprentice
> starts at 2nd level

> +10% experience gain > Henchmen > Athican Laether Cuirass
> Athican Longsword
> Fending Blade
> champions are recruited for free
>+50 Influence, +1 Prestige and x2 exp on completion of quests
> Quest maps (*)
TARTH Air Disciple
Life Apprentice
> +50% dam vs beasts
> Always acts first

> +3 ATT and INI when in groups of 3 or less
> no movement penalties
> never attacked by monsters
  > Special types of bows
> Masterwork Chainmail (replaces Plate)

GILDEN Earth Disciple
Life Apprentice
> +1 hp/level
> immune to poison
>   +25% DEF
> +30 Spell Res
> +1 Hp/lev
> Iron Golem (*) > Golem Shield
> Great Hammers
> Light Plate Armor (replaces Chain mail)
> half cost in metal and production for weapons and armor built
> half cost to upgrade unit equipment
> +50% cost of tactical spells
PARIDEN Air Apprentice
Life Apprentice
Water Apprentice
> +2 lvl to summons
> Shadow Warg summon
>   +1 INI per Air Shard
> +1 Sp Mas per Fire Shard
> +1 Sp Res per Water Shard
> +1 Hp per Earth Shard
> -1 hp/lev for all units
  > Sindarian Staff
> Leht Staff
> Procipinee's crown (Item)
> Tomes of the four Elements

> Arcane Monolith Spell
> Scrying Pool city improvement
> Constructing improvements takes 25% longer
KRAXIS Fire Disciple
Water Disciple
> Silver Tongue Ability
> can fortify tiles in tactical combat

> +10% ACC and DEF per city lev to defending units

> +10 DEF when below 50% Hp

  > Bronze shield
> One-handed spears
>+30% value from trades
>+20 starting influence
> 800 starting Gildar
>+1 ATT +5 Unrest in all cities
> Can recruit champions of both factions
> Broken Loyalties spell
MAGNAR Fire Disciple
Death Apprentice
> +50% spell damange
> +10% exp
> +2 Sp Mas per level
> +50% Fire Res
> -50% Cold Res
> Slave units > Scar Stone > defeated units of other factions are enslaved
> razing a city enslaves half of its populaton
> Cull the Weak, Death Lash and Candlecloak spells
YITHRIL Earth Apprentice
Death Apprentice
> +1 hp/level
> immune to poison
> +20 weight capacity
> berserk ability
> start at 2nd level
> +10% Hp
> Juggernaut (*) > Great Axes >   -50% normal unit wages
> Gauntlets of Grazna (Item)
> Begins with Training Tech
> Cannot train ranged units
CERESA Death Disciple
Water Apprentice
> +2 lvl to summons
> Shadow Warg summon
> +3 Hp on killing an enemy
> -1 Hp/lev
> Spider units (*) > cannot craft Chain mail or Plate > +2 mana every season
> Staff of Souls (Item)
> Begins with Shard Harvesting Tech
> Infection, Corruption, Graveseal and DoC spells
> Friendly elementals spawn from Shards

Weaknesses are in red. One could add (*) to all bonuses that require a Tech to be active, and (T) to all those that are related to a trait, in case people deem it worth. I started by then got bored :P

Having a look at the manual of MoM or even the user manual crafter by users of HoMM V could give futher ideas. It is a strategy game, people like me like to have ways to compare pro's and con's of each faction, and the manual as it is now does not really help.

M

ps: Krax Blood says that Krax gains +10 def when below 50% hp, but I think this works for all Kraxis units, isn't it?

Anyone else have green or bluish outlines around the pages on iPad 3? For some reason both the PDFs listed in the link have thick green (and in the case of the slim, turquoise) outlines around every page, whether I view it in the browser, iBooks, or Dropbox.

Oddly enough the (outdated) version you can download from the Steam store does not have this issue, and looks beautiful. The PDF version of the Hiergamenon in the OP also looks great for me.

Is it just me with this issue? :(

Edit: The outlines are also not there when I open it in Windows.

I have viewed (and used) both the Fallen Enchantress Manual (which I just love!) and the Hiergamenon, on my iPad 3.  I frankly think that both documents look great!

That said, in the case of the Manual, each and every page has a thin (perhaps 1/8 inch) turquoise border on each page.  I actually thought it was intentional; because it looks very tidy, and slightly more colourful, than the bare pages, which are (I believe) designed to look like old vellum, or at least very old paper.  I view the border as a plus - something which enhances the look!  (I am refering to the earlier - non-slim - version, BTW.)

On the other hand, the Hiergamenon does not have any coloured borders, when viewed on my iPad.  Both of these documents are clear and clean, and easy to read, which makes them excellent reference sources to have on my desk, alongside my game PC.  My thanks again, to Toby and crew, for making these documents available in such a useful format and media.

Very nice indeed.

I love how this game is turning out to be. The manual is a work of art.

I'm giving it a try tonight when I get home.

I have not played this game for months. It must be so different from what I remember.

I can not access and version of the manual...every time I try I get an internet explorer has stopped working message and the page crashes....

Help...there are some things that I cant figure out that are making the game unplayable (for instance how the heck do you heal injuries on your champions?)

Try to download it, instead of opening it. It is a large file, so it may be crashing the pdf reading plugin/extension. That may help.

Healing injuries: only way to do that currently is finding a special potion as a drop during quests I believe.

I am missing something in the manual: how do I cancel a unit spell?

I hope it is nothing glaringly obvious, but I cannot find out how to get rid of an enchantment I dont need anymore.

You go to your kingdom governing page and at the top right there are some tabs, one is enchantments, you can cancel enchantment on units and cities from there.

@Lord Xia:

Thank you, that was what I was looking for. But I have still have my problem ;)

I found the regeneration spell and could remove it, but "Anointed by Fire" does not show up in the list. Does that mean I can cast it only once and not switch it over to another unit? I put it on my sovereign first to use Fireball, but she can now cast it by herself and I would like to anoint another hero with it.

Edit: I found the post which says this is a bug, so I cannot do much about it.

Oh yea, I think those are permanent.

I think the 'anointed by fire' is 'add fire apprentence ability' spell, you can get a similar effect from the 'fire spell book', but the books are also one shots so you can not cancel the spell books either and have to buy a new copy of the book for each of the heros that you want to 'fire spell'.

my half roupee.

For some reason trying to use the links in the OP causes both firefox and explorer to freeze and lock up. I am unable to open either pdf up in those programs on my computer.

I can view and read the Heirgamon though.

I am having problems too. I finnaly got it to load something and it loaded 25. something megs just shy of finishing. I was unable to save the file to my computer. I then tried again and it keeps getting stuck on 3.81 megs. Not sure what is going on.

Toby, could you please add the following hotkeys to the manual? They are not mentioned in it.

1 sets the camera to the default isometric view

2 sets the camera to a zoomed in topdown view

3 sets the camera to a zoomed out topdown view

4 sets the camera to a topdown view at clothmap-level

5 sets the camera to a zoomed in isometric view

Ctrl + n creates a new map, using the same game-settings as before

Ctrl + tab opens the overlay-menu (most player overlook the pop-up mentioning this)

Sooo.. how long until a Legendary Heroes manual?  I don't see one available in my steam account.
