Nice job on the Fallen Enchantress Manual, Kestral2040!  It really does look classic!  As Kael said, thanks to you and your team for putting it together (Toby Sarnelle, Kathleen Land, Brian Clair).  It's another one of those "little things" that makes the whole package (the game, as well as the Beta process) seem that much cooler ... and a Cut Above ... what we typically see from Stardock's competitors.  Congratulations on a job well done !

P.S.  Please let us know, in this thread, or where-ever appropriate, when you issue major revisions to the Manual.

Thanks for all the kind words (and that goes for all of you). I'll make sure we let you all know in here whenever it gets updated. I still have some little tweaks I would like to make for it (and corrections).

I take back my praise. I can't believe you don't have a list of spells included in the manual. /facepalm I want to read about the spells :I

We wanted this too but because of how much things have changed (and often are minorly tweaked for balance still) with spells we didn't want to put something in there that isn't accurate and could quickly be out of date. Also, there are well over 200 spells in the game, which is a TON more content.... and even then, how can you just stop at spells if you go that far? I would want all the Improvements and Technology and probably even equipment... traits? champions? you get into a place where we are copying down the in game Hiergamenon (which is easier to use than a PDF).

I also looked into getting some nice layouts of trait and improvement feedback in there based on a UI feature we are hoping to implement in a future patch, but it didn't fit without being interactive.

No biggy, I appreciate it. I really love how you did the faction pages because now I understand what the world is all about which makes it more fun to play.

I can't wait to see all the spells! I love spells! Magic! Pew! Shock!

also I will be making my color 255, 0, 255 out of spite because the manual says not to and i'm a rebel like that

The nice thing about a digital manual is that you can update it often.

You need to update the list of Death spells for Ceresa and others with the new changes (removing Berserk and adding in Shadow Bolt or whatever its called).

As a big video game manual critic, I give this an 8.0/10.0, whereas most games these days get a 1/10 for shipping a 3 page pdf with install instructions and nothing else.

This is a very well done manual, beautiful !

one little typo on p71, l5 : "add content" should be "added content" (i think, i am no native english speaker).

Awesome!!!!

I'll put it on my new kindle fire HD  :digichet:

The XCOM manual is 5 pages, including 1 page actually "describing" game mechanics :d

Another typo p. 43 'a different method that much be used'.

I studied it tonight in preparation for the release, it was a good read; well written, clear and informative. :) Though it would have been easier for me to read if it were a little more tablet friendly..

1. It is missing a bookmarked table of contents.

2. A single page per page would be nicer than 2 pages per page.

3. Each page draws really slowly (ipad2), probably due to the backgrounds.

Regardless, good to see a proper manual and I am looking forward to the release of the game in a few hours!

Not for purposes of printing.

Not for purposes of printing.

Why not? Printers can output multiple pages per sheet (or 'booklet' mode).

Oh, thank you!  A well-written and comprehensive manual!  I played a little of the beta and enjoyed it, but the underlying mechanics were largely hidden from me which hindered my ability to make correct strategic decisions.  I'm going to enjoy the game much more now that I actually know what I'm doing.

On a different note, the manual seems to render very slowly.  I've had similarly sized manuals that render much more quickly.  I also agree with the "1 page per page" comment.  It would make it much easier to read on a tablet.

Looks like it went on a bit of a diet... ~36MB --> ~25MB

Small Glitch - Capitrar and Urxen are missing from the manual.

Related - Are those two factions now unlocked in the game?

Question:  I searched the manual and there is no mention of shared experience when a Sovereign and Champions are in the same group.  Was this an oversight or removed from the game?  This was a major game mechanic a few builds ago.

The manual goes through the pre-constructed sovereigns.  It doesn't cover additional factions we provide, but they are still in there.

Pretty sure that was done deliberately. Allows for them to work with the Heigeraim thingy. That's where all the specific info is going to be.

Want to take a few seconds to also say thanks for the team for putting this together, looks cool :D

I'm happy to see the "Letter from the Designer" and wish it were longer. I miss the golden age of computer gaming where the manual came with the game, was a minimum of 50 pages, and a third of that was design notes. Even Sid Meier is nerfed nowadays.

It renders slighty faster, too, though still not fast enough for my liking.

I wrote some longer notes but they had to fit on pages with a lot of info :)  glad you like them tho!
