I really like strategy games a lot and judging from Ashes, Sins and GalCiv you obviously know how to make a good one. But are you sure it is a good idea to make a decision about mixing these two games genres thus early, before it is somewhat clearer how well SC:O works out? Star Control is already a complex project with lots of different sub-components to be fully fleshed out. I would have assumed you wanted to expand on this adventure base first wit

Yeah I know. Obviously all individual components of the game should be as good as possible, combat and other. SM is just very important beyond that in my opinion, since it is the first part the public is going to see and maybe the first thing a lot of people are going to try. And as I already mentioned on Skype in February or so when Brad has been talking about release, your rarely get a second chance to make a great first impression. So I think SM should be really polished befor

I suddenly get lots of crashes with the release version (not the beta) since yesterday, mostly during the loading screen after launching the game but also quite some in-game. The only thing that has changed on my system was a big Windows 10 update about two days ago. I verified the files several times, 1 fails and has to be reaquired after every crash.

Sounds good. Among a few other things the most important features for me which are not in your list: I personally would prefer if strategic zoom would allow for zooming out further than it is now possible, so that the UI doesn't cover too much of the map view and the map is autocentered (like Supreme Commander). 2vs2 automatched ranked and unranked would be great (though I don't have that much time to play at the momen

Does anybody know if there is a way to rejoin a conversation on Skype? A day after Brad added me to the Skype Star Control Founders group a few days ago my wife was using my notebook, had no idea where all these messages came from and obviously clicked leave conversation. Skype actually wasn't running there, but Windows 10 seems to have a pre-installed Skype Preview app which I didn't even know it existed that anyways displayed all the messages

I prefer Escalation because I really like complex challenging RTS games with lots of units, big maps and strategic zoom. The base game as an entry level version for getting friends quicker into the genre would be nice, but after playing Sins, FAF and other games which have strategic zoom (including Escalation now), I couldn't get used to play it without strategic zoom and got quite frustrated trying it since I joined the founders program. Also I have the fee

The update was quite an interesting read, thanks. Regarding the hardware requirements, I think the game will probably be at least a bit less hardware hungry / better optimized closer to release. But since Stardock is planning to work on Star Control for many years (10+ years for Ashes of the Singularity from what I've read), it should be in my opinion as much of a next gen game / engine as possible to be futureproof.

Having written a (tiny) 3D engine myself during study time more than 10 years ago, I'd be tempted to give "1" as answer because I'm interested in this (not at all boring [e digicons];)[/e] ) stuff. But since it should be also fun to read for people who bought the founders edition just to play Star Control and support it, I think somewhere in the 3-5 range would be best.
Similarly, I still prefer Total Annihilation to Supreme Commander (all iterations) and it doesn't have a zoom out to the full map.
I also prefer Total Annihilation, as I have never been a fan of the "fully zoomed out looking just at icons" - type gameplay. That said, I bought TA on the day it was released and ever since then I dreamed of the possibility to seamlessly fully zoom out. I don't want to

First post here, hi all! :) That heading really grabbed my attention.
Zooming out to a map full of icons where people play the game as icons is not a viable commercial game strategy.
I think that's ok. But not allowing the player at all to seamlessly fully zoom out his view with the mousewheel to a map without ic
