I'm trying to determine if my new computer will play this as is, or if I need to look into getting a dedicated graphics card. It's a Dell Inspiron 3847 with Intel (R) HD Graphics 4600. This IS my concern, as the rest of the computer seems fine with it's Intel i5-4460 quad core 3.2 GHZ, direct X 12 with 12 GB or RAM. OR Do I need to buy a new video card and p

I've been having the same problem with my digital download with the game crashing frequently in the first 50ish turns and every so often after that, and I realized a couple things that help: -My game will crash early on, within the first 50ish turns and I just save every turn. -If I stop using the F1-F11 hotkeys, the number of times my games crashes drops to almost nothing after those first 50 or so turns. Consequently, outside of using the Contro
I just started playing TotA, and had a lock up while not too far into the game, and I'm wondering, which Windows Compatibility Mode is Best to use for this game? Being the fact that this game that has been out for a while, I'm wondering if using it in Windows 7 is that good of a choice. I'm only playing on a Medium sized map, and not far in, so
Using VISTA, I finished a game, no lock ups or slow downs with these 2 options turned to off, SHOW HUMAN SHIP BATTLES, SHOW AI SHIP BATTLES. I added this in case anyone is still playing this game with VISTA, it does work well, with those 2 options turned to OFF.
And yes... I know I can turn ship battles off in the Options menu, but to me, watching the ships fight is a very fun part of the game.
And yes, I've tried adjusting the game with all the Vista "compatability" options... they don't help. If anyone knows a fix, please post it here. Thanks in advance. :)
Came back to play my Gal Civ I Ultimate Edition on my Vista CPU now... and it pretty near locks up with every ship battle. >:( >:( You can work your way out of the ship battle stall=lockup with clicking the windows key (and then clicking on the task bar to come back into the game) or do the CTRL ALT DEL as Dragonshrike listed, BUT... each ship fight takes about 20 seconds to complete doing it this way (it seems like much longer). Not very practical for play purposes if you play t
Aeligos, take a look at the links I provided recently in the "Guide for beginners" thread. Being newish to the game, those should be helpful. ;)
Other helpful web sites: http://galciv.wikia.com/wiki/Galactic_Civilizations_Wiki this one is very informative for a lot of things: http://webpages.charter.net/trevorpowdrell/ Hope they help. :)
Not in Gal Civ I. You can in Gal Civ II, but I have hardly touched that animal.
I bought Gal Civ II with all the expansions and have only looked at the intro after installing it. I read too much of A.I. problems with certain races and waited for bug fixes, but these don't seem to be a priority for them. :( While having more to build on planets and more to do with the planets in Gal Civ II, seems to be a step forward, (in Gal Civ I, I would have almost all the buildings that I intended to build on my primary planets already built long before the game was ev
Fixing things on their website for these Gal Civ games doesn't seem to be a priority. Gal Civ II website, the search engine that they provide doesn't work, and has not worked in many months of going to it from time to time to check on it.
nuts.. and I was thining about dusting off this game and starting to play it again to submit scores, etc.
Can't help you here, I don't play with mods
Outside of the possible Vista problems with Gal Civ I, what parts of the Game of Gal Civ I do you prefer over Gal Civ II? And Vice Versa? Graphics and more options and such in Gal Civ II, but if you aren't into ship building and design...
Also, lists of contact sites are in this thread: http://www.galciv1.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=204676#205181
Odds are pretty good that if you have an XP computer, you probably meet all system requirements, but just in case, you may want to list what your computer has in it, as well as, more info as to what point the game doesn't boot up - load screens, into the game, doesn't start at all, etc. Onboard video vs. video card... etc
Thanks! these images are not thought to be printed out. We are working on printable Techposters with colorsaving backgrounds.
Thank you very much!!![e digicons]:w00t:[/e]
I-Mod Stefan, These are nice and great and all, really first rate [e digicons][/e] backgrounds and all... but I have a request: Is there anyway to get the files that I can print out, that don't require a magnifying glass to read?... or that doesn't have the background material with it, that makes it hard to read when printed out? Or... is there a way to filter the background stuff out for printing (that a somewhat novice like myself
I only played GalCiv on Win XP. Haven't installed it to vista yet... Has anyone been able to run GalCiv I on Vista?
Question: If I download and install winrar, does it override winzip, as a tool? Or will the computer ask which program (winzip or winrar) to use to extract a file?
Yes that looks it is it. [e digicons][/e] Did anyone ever create a spreadsheet version for the weapons and defense trees?
Without the search engine working, can someone here link a printable map of the original tech tree?... pre-ToA
At the risk of sounding stupid... after downloading, how do I "open" the file to look at it? What does it need to be associated with? etc. It's a *.RAR file... and I don't know what kind of file that is. Thanks in advance.
If you bought the "Ultimate Edition" from Target (that's where I got mine about a year ago) then there should be a white label sticker, attached to the plastic case that holds the disk, that is inside the cardboard sleeve. That sticker has the Serial number on it. If it's missing, you probably need to return it to the store.
