I think that the main reason that those things were brought up was to possibly establish some sort of a pattern, as it is well known that the Wachowski brothers have literally layered both movies with “physics and laws” of not only several sci-fi writers but religions, philosophies, and popular folk lore as well.
Chris – I’ve been thinking along the same path that perhaps there was some sort of metaphysical transfer between Neo and Smith, thus enabling some human “abilities” in Smith, and “super human” abilities in Neo (controlling machines outside of the Matrix). From what I recall of the comments that you’re quoting, they’re not precise and they’re taken way, way out of context. Put back into proper context the statement resembles this: [when talking about fans who download music for free] “… its not like we’re saying that all of the people who support us are loser metal heads…” Now, again, this not word for word if it’s from the same interview/article that you’re talking about, but this is at least the correct context.

Hate them all you want, but the new CD is quite possibly their best work to date. Being uber-negative towards them cannot change that. The new CD is the best metal CD in a long, long, long time.
Their new, and permanent replacement, is Robert Trujillo. He’s a monster of a bass player. He played with Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, and more recently did quite a few gigs with Ozzy’s “band”. Jason was good but Trujillo will fit in much better. Wait until you hear him play…
