Totally different circumstances though. You aren't watching 90% of your profits go to someone who maybe heard your album once. You aren't being ripped off by a bunch of execs who do nothing but listen to their underlings while spending most of their time play golf.
The reality of it is if you don't sign on the dotted line, you don't make an album and get out there. There's a million and one people who want to be in that position and they'd do anything for it. Even with legal advice. Even with the pope on your side. You sign a record contract, you're selling your soul.
