sorry for the delay in reply. Galciv I, and I've found I need to run it alone, without using Impulse. Which is a good thing since now Impulse won't load. [e digicons]:annoyed:[/e] I've put in an email to stardock about that problem. Thanks for the reply here :)

I'm no expert, but I've found that for some games I need to set affinity to only 1 CPU. If you've never done it: after starting game, bring up task manager (cntrl/alt/del), go to PROCESSES tab, find your game name, right click, then click on Set Affinity. Uncheck either cpu1 or 0 (doesn't matter which). Go back to game...hopefully it will run fine. Another thought...are you running Impulse first and GalCiv from Impulse? If so, try not starting Impulse and just using the GalCiv.e
I accidentally found a work around that may work for others, although not for the OP unfortunately. I don't start impulse first, in fact, I just reboot to clear anything the Impulse might have left hanging around. Just run the galciv from it's shortcut or it's actual game .exe file WITHOUT impulse. Seems to startup and run just fine. Must be something conflicting with the impulse engine or resources that impulse uses. I don't use Vista, but I'm thinking perhaps there's a resource
Is there anyone here who can help those of us with Civilization and the problem it has hanging at the first screen after loading? (see the Civ forum) Doesn't appear to be anyone responding to the questions, so I thought I'd try a broader audience. The game appears to load thru impulse (latest update...machines with plenty of power for the game) and then hangs on the first screen after the "loading..." bar screen.
and here. loads, lets me pick which civilization, etc....loads everything apparently..then locks on the first screen.
Yay! working now. No more network problems. downloaded, installed and playing :) Thanks to whomever!
same here. download Impulse? FINE! we can get you that immediately! yes ma'am! Want to download the game you purchased? no...sorry. cant' do that. we're having "network problems". [e digicons]:|[/e]
