OK, I have not been able to figure this out myself, so hopefully one of you can explain it. When Invading (or being invaded) there are two values displayed - one for Soldiering and one for Tecnology. Now, I have invaded many a planet where my own values for the two were much lower than my opponents, and even when the opponent has substantially outnumbered me I have still kicked but. At other times, I have invaded with both of those values higher </em

OK, thanks for the info.
I have been merrily blowing away eneny starbases when I ebcounter them, replacing them with my own if need be. It seems to me that it would be much more efficient if I could capture enemy SBs instead of blowing them up. Can they be captured? If so, then how do I go about it? Is there a Tech. required that I have not gotten to yet?
I have had mixed luck with mixed weapons/dfenses. I once had researched far enough up both weapons and defenses that I built (on a large hull) a ship that could utilize all three defenses and all three weapon types. Haven't been able to do it again, since, though. A fleet of those babies could clean up, though!
I do not usually follow a "standard" research path. What and how I research depends on what races I am facing and what I can pick up through trading. I usually play a custom race and I have Xeno Researcg and Stellar Cartography as starting techs. The first tech I actively research is usually sensors. I generally start a game by building a couple of Scouts. Once I have Sensors, I can upgrade the scouts to a "Surveyor" class I designed, which are able to explore anomalies. I will then w
