"I believe the multi-minute video needed to slow the earth down more would suck up too much memory." Perhaps sacrificing the star field (leaving space black) would counter the CPU usage of the multi-minute video. Being close to the Earth would obscure the stars anyways. I thought slowing down a video would be less CPU intensive. (less is going moment by moment ). Though, slowing it down would require a longer length video...
