Trading (Diplomacy) screen question in Diplomacy GalCiv2 Forums

I have a small question regarding this screen. Say, If I trade one of my technologies for someone else's then does that mean I wont be able to use the technology I invented and traded. For example, I have ion drive engines researched and trade it with the altarians for beam technology, so does that mean I wont be able to put ion drives on my ship until I research that technology again? I know its a stupid question but im kinda new to GalCiv universe Thanks

I am in the UK. I just bought the game for download only and my reciept still says PreLoad on it. Does this mean I wont be able to play the game until its released in europe???
