Hate to do a year and half old thread necro, but also hate to start a new thread when one describes the problem perfectly. Is there any actual fix to this, other than running windowed? (Which is less than optimal). (I actually have the base game, gold, and now the ultimate edition, the latter of which I am having the problem with. I don't know how to add my serial number, when I try it just runs impulse and I get a long loading screen in its web brower, then my internet goes o

I have Gal Civ II Gold that I want to install on my laptop. However, I don't have any internet. Technically, I do, that's how I'm posting this, but it only lasts for about 1-3 minutes at a stretch before disconnecting. (It's Verizon Wireless 3G, which worked perfectly for a year, has now been terrible for the last 6 months to where now it's only working slightly) I can probably get online enough to activate it on my laptop (depending on how long activation takes), but not down

I think the original post is somewhat hypocritical, because the Stardock Central basically is a form of DRM. Beyond having to use it to get patches, which restricts the uses of the game by legitimate owners who don't want to use SDC (like me, whose computer SDC trashed in the Gal Civ I era), or who have computers not connected to the internet, it also restricts the user's rights to resale the game. If I buy a game with disk copy protection, I can sell to someone else when I

But then it won't be your *home*world anymore, right? This is just a personal opinion, but I can't understand why there are planets with PQ so much higher than the average HW. If you think about it, the HW is where the native species adapted to for millions of years. I don't know - to a certain extent, the best conditions to produce life (and a technological civilization) are also the suckiest to live in. I

Remember the Warlords series from SSG? Basically an fantasy version of the Empire games, but with heroes? The last one (IV) didn't do so well? Well, they (or half of them, Infinite Interactive, Steve Fawkner's split off company) are back with a new game, but this time it's a little different. It's an RPG set in the Warlords universe. But it's not the usual sort of PC RPG. It's a puzzle RPG. Basically, it's an RPG, but instead of your normal turn based combat where you roll to hit a

Seriously, why would a minor race want any of that? They don't colonize anything. So they don't need those techs. They only travel outside their planet to mine resources, so they don't really need range. They hardly need fertility acceleration, since they only have one planet. Powerplants are limited use, because they don't build a lot of ships (just enough to fill up their orbit). They're dead meat in a fight anyway, so they don't need any combat techs. The real trouble with the game

Might as well, since that's presumably the only way I'll be able to get the patches for DA. Could make it even more Moo 2 like. I guess they won't ever add tactical combat, but they could make the Dread Lords more Antaran like. And they could fix a lot of things in the game that aren't really broken, but don't work very well, either.

Anyway, my wants: 1) Standalone patch. If you are so worried about piracy, despite your internet activation deal, then add watermarking to the patch, so you know who spread it around if it gets pirated. (I know you say you simply can't be bothered to spend the 10 minutes or so to make the stand alone patch, but it really doesn't take very long, as there are programs to make patches like that, it's not like you need to do it by hand) 2) Make the Snathi a major race. They a

Well, the main thing I would like are stand alone updates instead of having to use Stardock Central, because I have no desire to possibly have SDC end up trashing my computer again. Yes, I might be the only one it ever happened to, but even so, it wasn't much fun and I have no desire to risk going through that experience again. I've bought Gal Civ 1, the expansion for that, Gal Civ 2, and now Gal Civ 2 gold, so I am a loyal customer, not being able to update without having to use an invasive pro

Of course the trouble is, the AI really doesn't cope with the Pirates. At least on normal intelligence. In my 2nd game when I got the pirates, they had a missile something like 35 (only PD III, but they must have a huge miniaturization bonus, because they could fit a ton on a ship). But all the AIs kept researching missile techs, and thus couldn't really even scratch them. I guess if the Drengin were still around, they eventually would have, since they like guns. But still, it's like giving

You know, the mere fact that there's as much disagreement as there is is a rather solid endorsement of leaving it free choice. The AI needs to understand when it's advantageous to build an OFM and when it's not (and no matter what the detractors say, sometimes it's definitely not). Forcing fleeting upon it in all circumstances doesn't solve anything. I disagree, because all the people who seem to like it the way

Also no copy protection to feck up our systems. Uh, no. Stardock actually features a quite annoying copy protection system. If you want to update, you have to use Stardock Central, which back in the GalCiv 1 days, really trashed my computer. Maybe it's been fixed, but I really don't feel like playing Russian Roulette with my computer just to play a game. The whole internet activation thing isn't exactly consume

I think there needs to be sort of a setting for how "mega" the mega-event is. The pirate event is almost more of a "giga-event" as it is, because it basically freezes the game in place (in terms of not being able to do anything outside of planetary development) for ages. OTOH, the knife, as long as it doesn't get your best planets, can be dealt with fairly simply if it happens later on the in the game, because you probably have enough warships to take out any ships it can build, just

Like the earlier poster said, the defense for the fleet can be deceptive, because what really counts is the defense of the ship that is being targeted. Since in combat, everyone fires at one ship at a time. Anyway, I haven't played much of DA yet, but even in DL, offense mattered a whole lot more than defense. In DL, I always designed my ships to the attack to defense ratio was 2:1 and so far that seems to work okay in DA.

Well, it's pretty obvious they are using this whole thing as part of their copy protection/DRM scheme. If they can control who gets the patch, they can keep piracy down quite a bit. I know you have to activate it, but I would guess that pirates figured a way around that. (Since they usually do).

I don't think this is a bug in Dark Avatar, I've been getting that since I've been playing the original Gal Civ 2. Just hit F3 or whatever to take you do a static, non map screen (the various information screens) and when you exit, the scrolling should have stopped.

Well, shoot, I wish I had known SDC was mandatory before I had bought Galciv II Gold. No offense, but it caused some nightmarish problems for me in the GalCiv 1 days, but I had to use it because that's how I bought the expansion pack for it. It me a while to straighten my computer out. I really don't want to have to go through that ever again.

Personally, I find product activation much more annoying and intrusive than cd based copy protection. I mean, I've had to enter my serial probably half a dozen times now for GalCiv2. Once when I installed it. Once to register. Then again, because I installed the wrong serial number (the game came with 2). Then I have to enter it again every time I install a new patch (and I have to be connected to the internet). I've never had a problem with losing cds or getting them scratched. I mean, ju
