Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

10/26/2023

  • Start menu folder groups need a manual refresh (right-click) if new files are added to a folder.
  • Adding a network drive as a taskbar folder group may render inconsistently and hinder menu open speed.
  • WindowBlinds skins will not skin the new styles
  • Language localization will be very spotty (good in some places, bad in others).  This will improve over time and as we approach a general release.
  • Start11 v2 icon in ODM is a placeholder fixed

  • Within the a few hours after release, there were reports of System Tray issues on Windows 10 only:
    https://forums.stardock.com/523337/get;3906807
    https://forums.stardock.com/523337/get;3906810

We quickly tested a fix and deployed it.

If you installed on Windows 10 and are seeing missing System tray icons or functionality, please redownload from your account page, install, reboot, and it should be resolved.

Thanks to rmai2store and ljferdinand for quickly bringing this to our attention.

10/27/2023
All are considered resolved with 2.0.0.2

  • We are aware of some app flyouts showing empty for Windows 7 and Modern menu types (credit David Frischknecht)

And that icons for certain app flyouts are not rendering properly (credit David Frischknecht)

  • We have identified an 'Access Denied' error for flyout menus as well as a shutdown icon issue.  It will be fixed in the next release (credit stonemoshed)
    Start Menu

  • We are aware of a pin launch error when accessing a pinned folder and are looking into it

  • We are aware of an error when trying to see a custom menu background

Win10 or 11?

If your system is fully booted, you see the issue still, but then restart Windows File Explorer manually, does it render correctly then?

We were able to reproduce an issue on Win10 with the systray.  We are testing a fix as we speak.  Keep an eye on this thread for an update.

Thank you for the prompt feedback.

The current release preview does not have much in the way of taskbar changes other than the new pinning options.  The next update is planned to have some taskbar enhancements and thats when we will be looking at things like that.

If you redownload the v2 installer this is probably addressed as we fixed a problem with system tray icons.  The installer was replaced so you must download the new one.

A couple of bugs

1. The option to [hide search bar unless searching] is not working on the new start menu styles

2. Changing pages via the mouse wheel now requires the start menu to be at a certain height (i.e. it cant be short in height) in order to switch pages even with blank space on the menu.

A couple of suggestions

I would like to see some more customization on the [windows pro style]

1. The folder on the side is great. But is also a little wide for my taste and I would like the ability to make it slightly more narrow to free up space

2. I would also like the option to toggle on or off the user name / picture to free up space

edit- additional bug

Unpinning or pinning apps changes universally across windows 11 style, windows app style, windows pro style, and windows launcher style. Why this matters to me is because on Windows 11 style I will pin folders, but in Windows pro style there is no longer that need as the side menu takes care of it. I suppose if I decide to fully adopt a new menu style it won't matter in the long run.

There are a couple of issues with Start 11 v2 on Windows 11 when using either the Windows 7 style or Modern style.

Firstly, the option to show icon on shutdown button results in a corrupted icon. This occurs even if I opt for modern style glyphs.

Secondly, any Quick access shortcuts that are set to Display as menu, show a greyed out <Access denied> and the floating tooltip displays a number. For example, Windows Tools, has a floating 15, Universal Applications has a floating 21.

Start Menu

(I was unable to screenshot the floating number)

Answering my own question :)

  1. Install v2 onto 1.47.3
  2. Reboot
  3. Activate
  4. That's all - all seems to be here...

Looking at the configuration, I just noticed that the taskbar parameters weren't editable (the taskbar being seen as handled by another tool).

Anyway, I did a settings backup to file, followed by a settings reset and a restore, and the taskbar parameters are editable again.

Talking of settings backup to file, I also noticed a bug:

  • The feature work as expected when saving to a new file.
  • When selecting an existing file, there's no overwriting confirmation question and the process/configuration windows is frozen.
