None of my monitors support HDR. I have tried several things but this has persisted for over a year so im not sure of all the steps i went through.

It seems like i always end up with issues that noone else can find like with groupy so im stuck just living with it. what i find odd is that it only seems to happen with programs that only have a 16 or 32 icon.

EDIT:

For reference you can see that the image is also messed up in the all apps list as well

Hey there.

I have 3 things:

  1. Would it be possible to create an option for choosing the position where the start menu loads from? In my particular case, I have my taskbar all the way to the right, and it would be awesome to have the start menu load from the center bottom rather than the top right of the screen (where the start button is located).
  2. I really like the easy to change Start Menu Options. Really awesome!
  3. For anyone interested, Start11 seems to work fine with explorer patcher (Which I use mainly to be able to have my taskbar on the right side of the monitor and a few other small tweaks) It would be awesome if Start11 would implement the ability to run the Windows 10 taskbar (essentially one of the main things that explorer patcher does) or if effort is made to keep Start11 and explorer patcher compatible.

Thanks, and awesome work so far!

All,

First, thank you for all your feedback. I have updated the 'Known issues' section as a result of it.

Again, thanks for the time, effort, and support.

What type of problems, Narusegawa? Any details (screenshots \ video are very welcome) would help here.

Nah the text just doesn't change. No matter what I rename it to.

Another bug displays the wrong menu style. To reproduce:

1. Select one of the new menu styles

2. Click on the configure menu button.

3. Click on the the "Start menu" portion of the breadcrumb on the top.

At this point the Windows 7 style will be selected however the menu will display in the correct style.

EDIT:

I'm going to try a reboot because now it's selecting "Modern Style" each time.

EDIT 2:

Yep seems to fix it

Good day, as a long time user of Startx products I have enjoyed the program.  Four months ago I paid for Start11.  Is it my understanding that if I want Start11v.2 that I have to pay another fee?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Windows 11 (version 22621.2428).  Bugs noted so far:

1) Cannot rename pinned apps.  This worked in Start 11, but not in Start 11 v2.  The edits don't register at all.

2) For the new menu styles, the menu outline is inconsistent (most prominent with the upper right corner).

Problem is that the menu shows a clear outline all around, but when it gets to the corner, the outline fades out.

3) I was going to mention the Universal Applications and the "denied" thing, but I guess it's a known issue, so OK.

I have uninstalled Start 11 v2 and reverted back to the original version.

When v2 is more polished and bug-free, I will give it another shot.

Question:

Any word on when v2 will exit the beta phase and be a general release?  (Hopefully soon!)

Feedback:

1) For the Windows 7 menu, can you make it so that the menu is offset vertically and horizontally from the taskbar?

This would bring the menu in line with other menus.  Consistent UI.  I have suggested this in the past (for Start 11).

2) Can you add visible options for Start 11 v2, such as the ability to disable "suggested apps"?  Can you make it clear?

I was concerned I wouldn't be able to disable this until I tried right-clicking on the menu and saw the option.

3) Can you please simplify the pinning of apps to the menu?  Start 11 (v1) got it right.  Start 11 (v2) makes it messy.

For example, when pinning an app, I don't want to have to see stuff like "page 1" or grouping.  Should be simpler.

That's it.  Overall, a decent first try, but needs more work.  Thanks!

A lot of people have many groups and pages, and the ability to pin an item directly to a group is something users have been asking for. Perhaps a "Show more options" menu choice at the bottom like Windows 11 would helpful for those who have simple Start Menus. I personally love the new "pin item" context menu.

Here are my impressions so far:

It is apparent that you have been listening to your users and that you spent a lot of time thinking this through.

The new Font Settings are awesome!

The new Group Appearance settings give the user lots of new options.

I especially like the ability to assign a background color, and adjust its transparency, to groups.

Also the ability to adjust the group row count and the group width are awesome.

Thank you to all the dev's for a great new product!

Issues noted so far:

  1. Cannot rename pinned apps (already reported by somebody else)
  2. No option I can find to set pinned apps to Run as Admin
  3. Cannot pin an installed app that's inside a folder, for example the Visual Code application shown here:

Run as admin is exactly how it was before.  You right click and select the more menu and run as administrator should be there if it is permitted for that app.

Issues 1 and 3 should be resolved in the next update, thanks for letting us know.

Damn let me also add that the Font sizes do not update properly.

If you change the size to say 120% it updates and the size is always correct but reopening the config app will display 100% in the combo despite the text size actually being 120%

Can anyone else confirm this or is this just another "me only" issue?

EDIT:

also the config app does not retain its size between sessions.

EDIT 2:

Out of curiosity what font is the "Default Font" used? Segoe UI ?

I can confirm the Font size issue. Also, I don't think the config app ever retained it's size.

Using S11v2B1 -- Changes to the Config/Visual appearance Fonts tabs are not "sticking". I have repeatedly set Item font, Header font and/or Menu font to 110%, 120% etc. but one or all often (but not always??) revert to "100%" after I close and then reopen Start11v2.

I missed the fact that this was "Beta1" in the announcement, installing it before I realized that. I regret that. Calling this a "Beta" is being generous. Can I reinstall Start11(v1) over v2 to revert to the last stable released version?

It may not have and I'm just now noticing it. In any case I would like to suggest it. Several of the pages can grow fairly long and it shouldn't be too much work to add. That being said it's likely a low priority thing.

I don't think I would advise it. My experience has always been poor when downgrading. Probably best to uninstall (keeping settings) and then reboot, reinstall v1. However another update is close it may be a good idea to just hang on a little while longer. Since most things work properly (you can still use the menu to open apps etc..) it shouldn't be too bad. Of course that is up to you.

Just pay for update and quick first impressions:

I'm french, and the few new features are not translated...

"Pinned items can be unpinned using right click menu" that's OK "and their icon can be changed using the properties menu"

Great ! Where can I find that properties menu ?

Thanks

JF

PS: Great improvement of the taskbar right-click menu (rounded corners, no more ugly white border) but no smooh transparency like windows win+x menu...
