WindowBlinds 11 planning

WindowBlinds 11 planning

We are putting together the schedule to make WindowBlinds 11.

Customization is a lot harder now than it used to be.  Microsoft, for reasons unknown, has actively encouraged developers to take care of their own client and even non client (border, frame) painting rather than using standard Windows controls.

Microsoft's baffling decision to throw away trying to provide a standard set of in-app controls for developers and instead provide vague, often conflicting standards (cough, Fluent) has resulted in having less and less of the OS we can even touch.

Which is unfortunate because WindowBlinds, in theory, could actually give Windows users a consistent, OS-wide Fluent if apps weren't handling the drawing of their own UIs these days.

Still, with that in mind, there are things we can do such as skin the standard OS controls and then handle apps on a case-by-case basis.  Keep in mind though, the more non-standard apps we have to handle, the harder it is for us to keep compatibility.

Earlier this year we released Curtains which doesn't even hook into the OS.  This means it is 100% compatible. Skins, even the weirdest ones, won't break a given app.  Of course, the price is that it doesn't skin nearly as much (no client area GUI controls like scrollbars, push buttons, radio buttons, etc.).  It's done quite well.  However, we know there are still plenty of people out there who would like to have more full control over how their Windows desktop looks.

That's where this thread comes in: What would you like to see in WindowBlinds 11?

Quoting JanOscar,

This thread is about Windowblinds 11 planning and adding constuctive comments on that subject is more than welcome. You should know that by now. Anything else, is irrelevant and yelling "we will stop paying" is in my book just trolling.

Renew Object Desktop
  1. Download over 10 high quality Windows customization apps.
  2. Access updates and betas for included software for one year.
  3. Exclusive invitations to try software betas first.
  4. Object Desktop manager app for automatic installs and updates.

this is paying - the user renew every year for update and support and this for many years

Good! As long as you stay on topic, you are more than welcome to particpate in the discussion. ;)

Xewafa actually was on topic as I was trying to converse with him. I think where he went wrong is by bringing up the 2023 typo. We have spent a lot of time on that being a typo already

I suppose it is possible he missed that conversation. This will be comment 508 on this thread after all.

We should always welcome in more people to discuss this topic.

Remember, folks.... English isn't everyone's first language.  It's not even the most common one.

As Phoenix said, the more and more-varied opinions on a subject the better for all...;)

Don and Jan.

I listed your names first to address the first part of my comments about there being a members right to vote with there feet and money.

You both have my apologies for the "Petty" comment.

If i can be honest, i find this forum very like many others, and not particularly welcoming to fresh members or Ideas, none of us know a new members level of IT or customisation skills, but if we all had to prove how much we know before we were allowed to join, some  would never be allowed in:D

I am not a judgemental person , i do not like to see negative ways and practices and i can take issue with things i see as wrong. I wish we here at the forum were more tolerant of others and what they post.

I hope this draws a line under the situation so we can all go back to waiting for a WB11.

On a plus note it does look like Sun Valley 2 has been released on the Windows 11 DEV channel as of yesterday. That should provide a more stable framework to move forward and actually develop things for Windows 11 without worrying about so many changes.

We Can Hope. The downside to my 4 SSD multi booting set up is the feature updates, can take time to sort them all out, Lets hope there are not any , or too many bugs in it so it can move into Final, then the Devs here can jump on it. Will be very interested to see what direction they will go in for WB11.

Actually Sun Valley 2 is not Windows 12. It is rather just Windows 11's big annual update. I think this confused some German site which is reporting it as Windows 12 since it is a big update.

After Sun Valley 2 leaves the DEV channel Microsoft will then begin the build code named copper which is 2023's big annual release. I suppose for the sake of gimmicks it could be called Windows 12, but that won't change it from ACTUALLY just being Window 11's big annual release.

Why is any member who has moved to Windows 11 only to find big problems using Stardock software they have paid for called a Troll. Members who find themselves in this situation will come to this forum and post, and after reading this topic and seeing the dates for said software still unclear and undecided will not feel any better about it. Then to be called Troll or accused of Trolling.

All the members here who are happy to continue using WB10 with Windows 10, good for you, but all peeps are not the same, why is it those who choose to make the move to Windows11 for whatever reason and especially in this topic are considered and spoken too in such a negative way, people behind keyboards would never do this in the real world, so why do it here.

100= agree.

Microsoft will begin developing Windows 12 in March (guru3d.com)

The Copper build has long been planned to begin development in March and enter the DEV channel. This is when Sun Valley 2 has been scheduled to leave the DEV channel and move to the Beta channel.

I am pretty sure this is what is being reported. They are likely ideas for next years annual release. But I could always be wrong

I had some E Mails for other Theme sites telling a similar story ie Windows 12 will be released in March 2022 or later, so i did some investigating myself and did read several stories from several sources saying the same thing, i thought about making a post but thought it may make me look stupid and out of touch, which i am not. Even read an article about MS taking on new staff to facilitate this. Glad i was not the only one to read these Windows 12 stories, has to be something in it as several sources together shout louder than the odd article.

I think this may be the best source of what is in the works from Microsoft.  copper build coming to DEV channel

I believe talk of Windows 12 to be incorrect.

Sources say they start working on it beginning March 2022, which has a completely different meaning. As side note I did not read any source claiming it will be released on March 22.

Not all Microsoft sources are created equal though so don't forget a grain of salt when reading that. If I were stardock I wouldn't take it serious. Too soon.
