1st time WB made my system totally crash. Installed as recommended I had 10-15 (german) system error messages all over the place and then was left with a black desktop and the cursor only. Even CTRL + ALT + DEL didn't work without errors. WindowFX is the same btw.

BUT: I run an Insider Preview of Windows 10 (14946.rs_prerelease.16100-1700)

i run the latest windows 14955 and windowblinds 10.4.9 and the black screen of death i swore doesnt happen nomore.how recent was this.did you try this during the 14946 phase or an earlier windows/windowsblind.because i think that was in an earlier version of windows/windowblinds glitch.

they gave a suggestion how to fix the black screen of death back then.somewhere in forums if you look but ultimately an update was needed to eradicate.

There are no reported issues with WindowFX or WindowBlinds with the latest insider builds and current versions of WB/WFX.  If you had problems with both it strongly suggests a non Stardock related problem.

Okay, I am fully aware of the risks using Insider builds, so no complaining, just some info. :-)

Will try WB and WFX again today. :-)

Something really doesn't play well with WFX and WB. I can install WFX, but as soon as I switch it on, total crash.

Are you also using ShadowFX?

Customize is not ticked in classicshell, also I have uninstalled Classic shell and it made no difference to taskbar which is not skinned at all.better than what it used to before the w10 anniversary update. Then some of the taskbar was skinned in stages in blocks of about 2 inches each.Done all the uninstall and reinstall thing, deleting the windowblinds folder each time.

Are you using a skin that has a custom taskbar?

A screenshot might be useful here I think.

What theme is that exactly?

Can you open a command prompt (Winkey + R type cmd and then ok)

Then type tasklist /M > log.txt

Then open log.txt (hopefully in c:\users\yourusername  and find the section for explorer.exe.  It will be something like this : explorer.exe                 57572 ntdll.dll, KERNEL32.DLL, KERNELBASE.dll,    and then another 10+ lines of .dll files listed.  Can you paste that bit into a reply please.  Just the lines for explorer.exe (so until the next .exe listed in the file)

If you run the command suggested there should be a file called log.txt

If you run the command and then type start . (that's start followed by a space and a .) you should get the right explorer window open and the file will be in there.

I assume you do not have an old version of Start10 or 8 installed on your computer too?

Also check the WB settings page to check you are not overriding the taskbar in the skin.

Your instructions dont work Neil, nothing happens when I put in what you say, there is no file called logtxt coming up.start followed by space and a ,shows error.dont have start 10 or 8 installed as I dont like it.Taskbat not being overridden.I have had this foe months since I installed w10 and I can see from the forums over this time I am not the only one with this problem.Thank you for your help but I will put up with it.

I think you are the only person with this problem?

The instructions do work.  I recommend contacting support as they will have you run a tool which will collect information.  Unfortunately you will miss the 10.5 release should there be a problem with WB, but right now it looks to be something specific to your setup.

There used to be a problem with WB not consistently skinning the taskbar if Start10 was not installed, but this was addressed with these betas and I believe we received feedback that the issue was indeed fixed.  Looking at your issue it looks like the taskbar never skins (which differs from what was reported by others) and you previously mentioned random colours which would point to there not being a taskbar to load up at all in the skin.

Still the same problem on my machine, metro apps not saving window positions, and bit sluggish, and also the annoying gap in explorer skin. Suppose to be black there, but the wthite behind in showing. Like the skin doesn't reach all the way in explorer.
Have tried fixing this in Skinstudio, but it doesn't obey or change anything. It shows right in skinstudio.

Effects all skins. Disable ribbon in WB settings helps alot in explorer, like not sluggish then, but doesn't help with the metroapps not saving window positions, or the gap in the skin in explorer. It's been like this for all betas since v1.07 which is the only version that works perfect on my machine. i'm using ShelllFolderFix, which is a must have for me to save the window positions since Microsoft was stupid enough to remove that all the way back in windows 8. I've tried all kinds of settings in WB, but doesn't make any difference, except the disable ribbon.
So i have to go back again to v 10.07. It's the only one that works fine without any problems at all.

Hope this is the right order i upgrade?:
1. Uninstall current beta in controlpanel programs
2. Reboots.
3. Clear temp files in windows temp.
4. Install new beta, then activation pops up right away asking for serial.
This is suppose to be like this? (Thought it would ask for reboot at once again so the wb service and etc could start with windows)
I put in serial and activate.
5. Reboots again.
6. Then apply the skin and settings.

Are you able to post a screenshot of the painting issue in explorer as it may give us a clue as to what's going on.

Also a picture of your shellfolderfix settings to compare.

Modern apps should natively remember their last position without shellfolderfix.
