Normally, the top skin authors have 3,000 downloads or so. Yesterday, the top 3 skin authors had 17,000 downloads of their skins in a single day. Today's stats won't be quite that impressive since we were down 6 hours due to the power outage in Livonia (the UPS's worked long enough for us to do an orderly shut down at least) but I bet the numbers are pretty high. Mormegil's 7,120 skin downloads in a day is staggering though. Treetog getting almost 7,000 is also incredi

So how the heck did you get into computers in the first place? When did the illness begin? For me, I started off playing video games on my dad's Apple II (which now lives in our basement). And got my own C-64 for Christmas. It was all down hill from there...

True. Lots of things are technically illegal. But in practice, what are you going to do? If Joe schmoe tkaes one of your skins and starts parading the net calling it his own, what are you going to do? I always take the view that kindness and reason will win out 9 times out of 10 and threats and nastiness will fail 9 times out of 10. I try never to make threats or take a hard line unless I'm in a position and willing to back it up with action if necessary. It's much

http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-1461990-100-6582676.html?tag=sptlt Those of you who have registered DesktopX or have Object Desktop have no need to go to download.com to get DesktopX. This creates a problem in that the only ones voting on a program over time become just those who don't register the sofware. This tends to make user reviews biased towards being lower user reviews. When reading through the reviews on download.com, it's very painful to see how many u

Hi gang, well, Stardock + WinCustomize had over 75,000 visitors in a single day yesterday. This kind of traffic would put us within the top 500 most popular websites worldwide if we maintained that level. Luckily for our bandwidth, it won't stay that high. But it does represent a sneak peak of what is likely to occur once Windows XP ships. But as a result, during these peek hours, we're going to start requiring those who wish to use the skin library to create an account (which is free

Which 3 t-shirt ideas would you guys like to see made first? If you could go over to the T-shirt section and comment, rate, whatever the T0shirt ideas and comment in this post, we could get an idea of which ideas are liked the most and start making T-shirts.

Yea, we're getting twice the traffic we usually get today. One possible solution is that when these times happen, to only allow people with accounts on the site (which is free).

Couple problems happening. 1) That worm virus -- targeted skinners. Guess which company is listed in a ton of those people's address books? The server has gotten bombarded by virus emails. 2) The release of DesktopX has caused traffic to skyrocket this week, it should go down in a few days.

Yea, the default one has a resource leak with that CPU object. Kill that CPU object at the top right of it and resave the theme. You should be fine from there on.

Good discussion guys. I was talking to Gorman on this very issue. The reason it's a problem now is that unlike 5 years ago, there are a TON more people on. And those people are using a lot more bandwidth than they used to. That's the variable no one brings up. The Internet has exploded in # of users and now it takes a ton of bandwidth. Let's use WinCustomize as an example. Compared to skinz.org, it has hardly any skins. Skinz.org had a ton more skins. But this month
