Few quick questions in War of Magic Elemental Forums

1) Anyway to increase food production in towns that aren't next to fertile land? 2) Anyway to get around mountains (or go through them)? I seem to be starting out with water to the North/South and mountains to the East/West and thus can't expand any further or meet other factions
