Camera options are forthcoming, they just didn't make the beta. The sizes of planets and asteroids were scaled back for gameplay reasons. Defense placement and the time to travel around the object being only a couple of the factors. We'll continue to evaluate their size based on everyone's feedback. Kryo accurately described why having orbital movement was removed. Thanks for the detailed comments

Good observations. The scout bypassing issue is handled by additional elements not in the beta and used to be a serious problem, especially in multiplayer testing.

The default number of AI per map is automatically set. The best experience for Sins was intended to be with at least 3 other AI players (for small) and 9 (for large). The reason is they wheel-and-deal against each other as well and you get interesting relationships. Its not like a lot of RTS's where the 3 other AI all go against you. If you do want that, you can set the AI's to the same team.

edit: I also would like mouse control (camera) options. Specifically mouse rotation speeds, inverting horizontal/vertical rotations (seperate of course), and turning on/off "smooth" rotation (when the camera continues to rotate after letting go). Already planned, just couldn't finish them in time for the beta

It currently only works at 1024x768 and if you have LOTS of ram. Jumping around at low resolution is a natural part of the process.

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting and open user.settings and look for REFRESHRATE. Adjust the value to something your monitor can handle. Save and reload

Why is there a grid in this picture? There is a UI option to turn on the tactical grid when you select something. Alternatively, if you hold down ALT, there are also a large number of tactical display options that will appear that includes the grid. They can be remapped in options->controls as well.

I can not get my game to start. When I double click the icon, it loads a giant black screen with no sound or intro movie. I have tried disabling the intro movie and it still has the same problem. I get some errors shortly after: Missing \n in C:\Documents and Settings\Kevin Huynh\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\uimappings.setting TextFileArchive ( C:\Documents and Settings\Kevin Huynh\Application Data\Iro

been playing the beta now for a bit runs great and no problems my only complaint is that it seems strange that ships can jump through the gravity wells. What i mean is that when ships want to jump to another planet instead of moving to the edge closes to the planet it is jumping to it moves to the closest edge to the ship which could be facing in the opposite direction of the planet meaning the ship jumps through the gravity well. I found this annoying because the A

1. Right Click mouse looking works perfectly, however seems backwards to me. A way to invert that would be nice. 2. Enemy ships can warp into your planets sphere of influence and them immediately warp to another planet THROUGH the first one. hehe. Thanks for the comments and glad you are enjoying it thus far despite the rule you aren't allowed to have fun! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Tongue.gif" border=0 align="

Just played the tutorial a bit and noticed that some ship names don't fit, mostly the frigates, just saids friga en the rest is off screen and out of it's box at the resolution of 1024x768. And still out of it's box at 1600x1200. Also the mainmenu text overlaps, namely singleplayer overlaps the beginning of multiplayer a bit. Any chance we could get a screenshot of this? That shouldn't be happening.

I found it rather hard to tell if you have a capital ship selected. Frigates have a circle when selected, but capships have no way to tell wether you've selected them or not. Capitalships should have a circle as well unless you can see the mesh. If you have a the mesh of anything visible and it is selected, the players owner icon will appear above it to indicate selection. Basically, if the object is in icon form selection is a white circl

Hi. I have pre-ordered the game. I have received the serial number. Where in the Stardock Central program do I download it? This is the first time I have done a Stardock beta test. Hi Sjet, Downloading: Open Stardock Central->Click Games->Click Sins of a Solar Empire->Click Install Keys/Authentication: Sins should auto-authenticate if you allo

Done... starts up, stardock movie, ironclad movie... and then nothing more then a small black box upperleft of screen.. I do hear the music of the main menu I guess. Hmmm... Time for some beta/techhelp boards? The fix can be found here: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=402&aid=148253#1169559

As soon as I get into the game, it shows the Stardock/Ironclad logo screens, the initial Sins of a Solar Empire Beta 1 screen, then goes out of full screen to a smaller windowed mode, and its just black (music still plays in the background, and acts like a normal game application window) The work around for this is to disable the opening movies. Goto C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

Downloading: Open Stardock Central->Click Games->Click Sins of a Solar Empire->Click Install Keys/Authentication: Sins should auto-authenticate if you allow it through your firewall. If that fails or you don't want it to get through the firewall, you can retrieve your serial number by using Stardock Central->Tools->Lookup Serial. Here is a complete walk-thru: <A href="https://www.stardock.helpserve.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid

I'm guessing generally what we will see in the beta is the final product (graphic-wise)? I hope this isn't so. Using placeholders means there are elements that are just filling space until we get around to putting the finished elements in. An example would be the TEC carrier texture - it is not complete so we have a decent, but incomplete placeholder texture in its place. For beta 1 some of the art/graphics are final and som

Just wondering, does this mean some ships or facilites will be just white stuff or something? And are we not gonna hear the dynamic music.. Or more importantly, the intuitive sound-messages? will we be able to save and watch replays? amd share them with other beta testers? will we be able to save and watch replays? amd share them with other beta testers? </

Yah, much smaller than anticipated. Though it has one race no campaign no multiplayer, so that has to cut it down a bit, we will get to experience the dynamic music? The beta is so small because there is a lot of material not included. We restricted the number of features, textures, meshes, music, soundFX, races and so-on. Its just the basics and just the TEC. The full version is much larger and will continue to grow up until relea
