There's an annoying bug here. Take trade, for example. If you skip "trade", you're not allowed to establish trade routes. That's a little more serious than a missing "associated bonus." I was going to use that to cripple my opponents in my last game. Never did but I'm pretty sure it would work. The AI doesn't research lesser technologies.

I don't think this is about mere cosmetics. Invasions are a major issue. There are weapons technologies that seem to imply that they will also go to your soldiers. I don't want tactical because I really don't have the time in an already insanely long game. However, I do want a "regular" army that is more potent than my planetwide draft if I pay for it. Infantry, artillery, cavalry... it's as fundamental to warfare as tiny, small, medium, large and massive ships.

Because I destroy civilizations as I gain a slight edge, the map never gets ridiculously cluttered with ships. I have run into minor issues involving the game getting sluggish in the late phases but never a crash. I have an Athlon64 2800 CPU on an Asus KV8 motherboard with 1GB RAM and an ATI Radeon 9800 with 128 MB RAM. GC2 runs great. What kind of system are you running?

If the AI learns to fight the pirates as well, this doesn't sound so bad. I think fighting pirates should be a diplomatic treaty option. A level of alliance to fight crime. If you destroy pirates in the territory of a treaty partner, your relationship gets better.
DA looks very promising. I like what I see in the forums. In particular, the idea of pirates throwing players off their script. I'm not beta testing because I'm a Metaverse player. Bases don't have maintenance cost, do they? The only time I ever checked was on influence bases after flipping. 0BC meant I left them alone.
