Quoting Belwolvie, reply 32I can really see the potential for creating remakes of Ultima IV or V with the elemental engine, the tactical battle system would work wonderfully with this. I look forward to having a go at something like this during Beta 4. If you've ever played Ultima IV then you've played Elemental tactical battles in essence. Though you can also watch this: http://
The core issue that I think all these games have in common to various degrees is giving players the ability to conjure up their own resources from thin air. As soon as you do that, you are basically making the game about cranking out the most cities/colonies/outposts/whatever. And ultimately, this is the problem Elemental has been suffering.
Yeah Brad, I can say in my recent playtests (with video
I know you're trying to be helpful and all, BUT: 1) Network cable could be bad to your PC. Yeah, right! I've been all across the galaxy, and I've seen a lot of weird shit. And I also know that users sometimes do funny things. But a network cable doing bad things to your rig?! Puhleeeze..! As if it's wired it with an unshielded cable that goes right through the middle of an mrt tube.
Good morning everyone, Well after working on some stuff I got another 38 minutes of video footage up. Ky'Riss parts 12, 13, 14, & 15. These include some battles with wandering tough monsters.. and were a lot of fun. (As always if you don't see the videos in 1080p HD, give them some time and check back and they'll be updated once Youtube has finished processing them.) <a href="http://gorstagg.wordpress.com/2010/07/12/it-is-always-the-darkest-before
Morning/Afternoon/Evening, Hey all, I've got another 30 minutes of footage up tonight. Ky'Riss parts 9, 10 & 11. And will be filming some new videos showing how powerful some of the higher level dangerous monsters can become. So as usual drop on by! Enjoy, grab some popcorn have fun! http://gorstagg.wordpress.com/
Snip... Let me outline some of the crucial things you guys have helped us consider and re-evaluate: Pacing Pacing Pacing. This is always a tough thing but it just takes too long to do cool stuff. We’re going to eliminate the requirement to build a special building in order to train units. This was a holdover from Galactic Civilizations (it required a shipyard) and Sins of a Solar Empire (shipyard) that really has no pu
Thanks for the kind words. In honor of that, with that first video, there is now 75 minutes of new footage, for Elemental: War of Magic. Beta 3A. And because this version of the game is much better... I'm going to be having a lot more fun exploring it and recording those explorations! So check out the website, and enjoy something that costs only the time you wish to invest in it. And you can even bring popcorn into the theater. My payment is sharing a great game
Hey folks, So I got a video done last night before heading to work, and I've just finished another hour and change worth of video's. I'm converting them now, and will get them fully uploaded tonight for you all to enjoy. The fun thing is that it's clearly a beta, so you get to enjoy things that happen as a beta. Losing text completely to finally getting a harbor! Yay! Right now, I've only got the one video up that I got converted, but it's right near that 10 minute mark. So yo
Same here. (and the bear and the imp have the same stats, 4hp, 4 attack(?), no defense)
Yeah same thing here. But if you look on your enchantment page, it shows they are filling a slot. So when they die, the spell goes away and you can then resummon one. As far as what they are capable of, I would just shrug, it's just place holder stuff. That's why the bear's have no depth and are just a copy and paste of the Imp. </p
There's a manual? Where? I have a town in the newest build, when i created a new game it just put in a town, no choice. it had both fertile ground and enriched within two squares of the city. Yeah but there's clearly a reason on their end that they've disabled it. In fact I wouldn't even be surprised if we don't ever get a "Load" option in beta. And I'm guessing the disabled nature of it is for testing purposes that we haven't been made privy to because it's part of the sausage factory grinding.
After watching this video, I just realized something again [..just take a look at Brad's cities @ 8:00]: We can build cities way too close to each other -> the "minimum distance cap" should be raised by 2 tiles at least.
To be honest Tormy, living here in the Twin Cities.. I don't mind cities being so close to each other.
snip... Well, I think one thing could be - a lot of us have never been let in this much of a beta process for a game before, so we don't know what to expect. And the reason why some of us are worried is - because we care about how the game turns out. I don't think it's anything malicious. Anyone who is in this beta, has wanted to be in this beta - either purchased a non-refundable place, or entered a competitio
Okay the title of this could easily of been shorter. [.806 Bug][Escort Quest Issue] And then in the body of it, you include all that. This isn't meant to be rude, please don't take it that way. It's just ease of viewing and keeping the forum threads clean and easy to read, without a wall of text per thread title.
Theres a manual?
Yeah an easy way to read it is to go to your Impulse, right click on the Elemental game, choose open Application Folder and find it there.
Does anyone read the manual? It's called Arcane Knowledge, not Spell Points. Mana is the energy used to cast spells.
Yes it may be called Arcane Knowledge, but throughout the game itself it refers to "Spell Points". That's where people are going off of this. Cause I do see on page 14 of the manual it calls it says Lore Points per Turn, and Research per turn. But in the game play thr
Having an army of coders, and designers working to fix issues, like you guys have, is silent and invisible. The doom and gloom stuff from people, often in a sense is worse than arm chair quarterbacking. Because they create a perception that will need to be managed every so often. But when it's managed that meant someone had to wade into those areas, to explain it. So I can understand the team's frustrations. I tried to explain it over on my blog several times. &
Nice designer video. It really started to hit on a lot of the key aspects of the game, that do need to be updated. And some that I guess I just accepted as polish that'll happen in time (walking sounds), (terrain tearing). And it brought a smile right to my face when Brad mentioned that the units cost to much. Because they really truly do. War of Magic, with half a dozen guys, isn't a war, it's a gang fight. And the amount of wealth gained, doesn't balance that out enough. It just tak
I found this confusing at first. Spell points sounded like mana and I eventually realized it was referring to research points. I would just call it "research". "Points" is reduntant.
The confusion on this is that you research one of the 5 trees for new advances.. you research spells to unlock.. spells.. that's why you would need to find a way to specify the two as separate entities to avoid even further confusion. It's all a
Actually if you were going for names.. mana works just fine as we all understand it. But spell points can be confusing, wouldn't it sound a bit better, for something like Arcana Lore Points. Used to learn spells.
This looks like a great update, and change! I don't see it listed, but will the equivalent of Harbors still be available? And will there be more beach tile or at least with Raise Land, will it turn a coast into a beach property for us to build against and grow? This version sound's really like it'll be a vast improvement for the 3A, over the rather buggy 3.
When the game goes live and out in the real world. Per a post it was stated that the retail box version 1.00 will have absolutely NO DRM on it at all. You can put it in and play, without ever updating it. Once you've got the game updated though, you do NOT have to be connected to the internet to play (excepting obvious MP games against others on said internet). And also you do NOT have to keep Impulse up and running, or connected all the time. This isn't Steam and they don't w

Well the normal development cycle at big game companies is like this. Work hard, drive the people into the ground to create the game. Massive crunches, during the final days before everything that is critical is taken care of. And as soon as the ratio of cost vs benefit comes in. There is the cycled axe. And in this case it is said it's across a bunch of different departments. Though the quoted text... Markus Wilding, global public relations d
