I am not sure of the limitations that the free version may have, but you could try the following.

Start Theme Manager, go to "Tools > Settings > General tab", then deselect "Automatically run files downloaded from the internet" - click "OK".

Go to WC and download the suite to "My Documents" folder. This should give you a ".suite" file after download, which you can double-click to install.

I just tested this by downloading the M12 Suite to my machine, so the download part should work. I have Object Desktop, so applying suite may or may not be successful depending on any limitations with the free version.

Good luck.

Unfortunately, I fear the free version of ThemeManager is still not updated (sigh!). Try and download the absolutely newest version of ThemeManager, if it still doesn't work, you will have to wait until Stardock has updated ThemeManager

Try the alienware suite, it is the only suite that I *have been able to get working using the free ver of theme manager...
Aufisch is correct I fear, going to either have to wait for Stardock to update the free ver, Or purchase Object Desktop with a working version of the theme manager and so many more programs!

I have purchased Object Desktop and have downloaded the currant version of Theme Manager (2.19h[rc]..002, and am still having the same problem described above. So it is not a free ver. problem, if anyone has any other ideas on how to fix this it would be great.

Apparently 2.19 isnt the updated version, or at least it's lower than the free version I have which is 2.20..

All I can assume is that things are still getting "settled in" from the recent *Server move..

Suites have been a long time issue, Aufisch is the person that informed me of the problem some months ago and I have been waiting patiently for the issue to be resolved..

All I can suggest is writing Stardock Support and asking your question directly, if anyone can help with the issue it is them.

Good Luck!,

Grrrrrr, I really hate it if a loose a whole answer because of some weird forum-big

Anyway lets try this again. I had originally assumed that the original author of this thread (Oden89) used the free version 2.11 which was the last free version with the bug not fixed. Since then version 2.2 came out and everthing was supposed to be peachy. Having said that....

I have to admit that I am completely confused myself now. I just tried my own version of ThemeManager (I usually don't really use this program) and I do seem to have the same problems as you guys. Now, I know for a fact that the download-bug was fixed in the 2.19 version since I tested several suites with it and they all downloaded and installed a treat.

Now I can't help but think that the most recent move to new servers (was it last week or ten days ago?) might have messed up everything again. However, I will also try and unistall > zapp > reboot > reinstall my ThemeManager and try to find out whether this helps at all. I will most likely also write another email to Brian asking him about this and keep you updated.

Quick update:

Zapped ThemeManager > rebooted > connected through SDC and downloaded and installed version 2.19h[rc] > rebooted again (just to make sure) > tried the following suites: "Basic Aquarium", "LeatherBox", "Alien Mind 2", "CopperDeck2". Also downloaded the newest available suite "Mako" and tried to download and install it through ThemeManager. NONE worked, as described in several post above; download of individual components happens really fast (i.e. doesn't happen at all).

...... off to write that email to Brian (its Easter though, might take a while unitl I get an answer)...

if ThemeManager is working at the moment for anyone here, please leave a post and state which version you are using.

Mine found the featured suite but could not download.

But at least I can load what I already have downloaded.

Quick update 2: Most of you might already know, but the downloading-bug in both ThemeManager and WC-browser was caused by scripts on the website itself, which were not running at all. T-Man has gone on the job quickly and fixed the bug already.

I have tested my version of ThemeManager (2.19h) and was able to download and apply suites again.

Please report here if you still have problems with your ThemeManager (please state which version you are using).

I am still only able to use the *Alienware suites*
Heres what I have done..
I completely uninstalled,Alienware, Theme Manager, Icon Packager etc,,etc
I followed the download links to reinstall Theme Manager at Cnet, I was able to get version 2.11..
Version 2.11 doesnt work at all

I then followed the links to the Alienware site and downloaded the Suite with the newer version of Theme Manager ver 2.20, this version works with the Alienware suites only..
It will not apply suites that come with Theme manager or suites downloaded from the suites library at WC..
I tested this by downloading Apocalypse-67's M12 Toxic..no luck

But it works with Darkstar..LoL

Ah well,

Double Zero: the reason your version works with "Darkstar" is because you already have downloaded all the components to your computer when you downloaded the 'Darkstar' installer.

Thanks for testing the free version for me and letting me know, I sent another email to Brian. I am not sure whether the not downloading thing is intentional in the free version or not.

eric solomon: unfortunately I am not allowed to send you the full version of the program, but I will inform you as soon as I know more about why the free version does not download.

Thanks again Aufisch, I did assume that when it did not work at first, that is why I actually went through all the trouble I did..(theres always hope!..LoL)
At any rate, I will keep my eyes peeled for any more info you can provide.

Thanks a bunch,

Just a quick update on this, since I won't be around for the next week.

The free version should be allowing downloads, this is not by design. Stardock is aware of the problem and is working on a fix for it. The release of the updated version for ThemeManager (free version) is not yet scheduled, but should arrive soon.

I am also having problems with theme manager. i recently purchased desktopx and i downloaded darkstar from the skins factory. it worked the first time. then i tried several others from win customize and not one worked.the window with scrollbar on the left shows that the themes have not been downloaded. all the tutorials and pdf files appear to be older versions, as my stardock central does not look like the one they have. i guess ill have to contact stardock support unless some one could have them mass email us to admit to problems so we dont have to ramble around in the dark wasting our time trying to solve something we cant
Reply #25 Top
What exactly did you purchase? If you only purchased DesktopX then you won't be eligible for the full version of ThemeManager.

If you purchased the ObjectDesktop suite on the other hand, do the following thing. Uninstall the version of ThemeManager you installed with the Darkstar-suite (this is the free version) and install ThemeManager through Stardock central. Make sure that you have "show pre-lelease versions" ticked, and that the downloaded version is 2.19i[rc].

Also, Stardock Central just recently (about two weeks ago?) changed its appearance. It is more than likely that the manuals are not updated yet, but it doesn't mean that your version is somehow different/older.
