Stock Options . . .

We've been starting to getting into this stuff lately, you know short term investments and commodities etc etc . . .
Anyway (if you pardon the expression) we were looking at investing into some (now) semi-regulated exchange equity in the Airline Industry since its all pretty lean and clear (trend wise) at the moment.

While doing some research my husband found something truely frightening!

Two days before September 11th about half of the stock in the two Airlines involved in the Terrorist Attacks on the World Trade Centre, Washington and the Pentagon had been sold/exchanged/renegociated etc etc! Basically there was a massive selloff which was made to look inconspicuous by the nature of the trading.

Taking into consideration that period of time, the names of the merchants involved (2/3 of which where US based corporations) and the relative status quo of the other major US Airline Stocks it would seem the Bigwigs of the United States Finacial Sector and Abroad had more than idea of what was going to happen a few days later . . .

Coights! WTF! Anyone else notice this?

I have heard this before, but not with the detail you have described.
Now, any Discordian worth their salt knows the old truism: THERE ARE NO COINCIDENCES!
My original thoughts on this matter have not changed: Obviously SOMEONE knew SOMETHING. My belief is that a very small group of large investors with some fore-knowledge began selling off substantial quantities of these stocks; other trend-watchers, and more importantly, automatic trading programs saw this and began to do the same as often happens when any stock has major changes. So, I believe it was sort of a cascade effect, making it look like many people knew something when only a very few may have.
Now, I'm not a financial expert by any means; but I am a master of conspiritorial thinking: give me enough time and I'll connect the Kennedy assasination to the Shriner's control of Area 51! (I really should work for Rand) ;p
BTW, I have a VERY small amount in the market, no matter how they look now, Airline stocks are a risk. One single day like 9/11 could render your investment worthless. Or, you could make a fortune. It's a lot like a slot machine!

There are a lot of stories floating around about the world trade center, most are out right false like Jews being told to stay away from the WTC on that day http://www.snopes.com/rumors/israel.htm . Some are likely false, like the cheating husband who told his frantic wife he was at work in the WTC while the attacks, unknown to him were taking place http://www.snopes.com/rumors/adultery.htm . Others, like the stock shorting story are true, according to this website that tracks urban legends of all stripe, http://www.snopes.com/rumors/putcall.htm .

Although the story is different from the one at the top of this message, for instance, there is no mention of major corporations involved in the trading, but simply unknown parties. At the time the above story was researched by snopes.com, there was an investigation underway. To Quote:

"The Chicago Board Options Exchange is investigating each of these trades and at this time is declining to offer comment on its progress. The volume traded and the one-sidedness of the trades, however, make it clear that those who had knowledge of the details of the attacks (which airlines would be involved and that the World Trade Center was a target) were behind them and stood to profit mightily from them."

Check www.snopes.com for more stories on the WTC attacks, there used to be a complete page, but I can not find it... the site in general though, is very entertaining.

Thanks for your insights and comments . . .

Regarding the Airline Shares and thier risk, there's apparently somekind of insurance that you can pay (if you can afford it's like an extra 15% ontop of the portfolio's purchase price) offered as an incentive at the moment to stimulate needed growth . . . it's all new to us so we're proceding with caution . . .

Anyone here heard about Nano-Pharmaceuticals (sp?) . . . do you think it's a viable investment, seems a likely winner over the next 5 years . . . :notsure:
