Question Re: Specifying Dock Icon Position on Background & Observation on Performance

Is there any way to specify the position where an icon will be placed on the OD background? Every time I create or drag a new item to OD it is automatically placed at the end. OD doesn't appear to allow dragging the icon to another position on the background.

Just as an FYI if anyone's interested, I've noticed that my video performance improves if I use OD's Autohide feature. With OD permanantly visible I've observed a reduction in graphics performance particularly in IE6 and Outlook Express. It's most noticeable when I close the apps. You can see them close rolling from top to bottom. With OD hidden, the problem disappears with it. I'm running XP SP1 with a P4 2.6Ghz, 1GB of RAM and an ATI 9800 Pro with 128MB of RAM, so I've got plenty of horsepower. XP is set to use full hardware acceleration. I configured WB to use hyperpaint which helped a bit. OD is using GDI+ and running the stock weather docklet. I'm hoping OD performance is tuned in future releases because I love it.

You can drag and d-ro-p the icons to a new position on the dock, but it seems a bit easier to do when there is a window open for some reason. It''s a little tricky at first until you get the feel of it, as the icon tends to bounce back to it''s original position unless you hit it just right.

Thanks pictoratus! Tried it with a window open as you suggested and it worked without a hitch. Strange behavior but what the heck, it works.
