Extra blank workbook tab on opening

When I open Excel 2019 I get a second tab showing.  It stays there if I open more workbooks.  If I close it by clicking on the X then the whole group closes.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need more information.

  1. Windows 10 or 11? Also need its full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe to get these numbers.
  2. Groupy full version number.
  3. Post screenshot or video of your issue.

Thank you,

I can not reproduce your issue on my system. Perhaps I am using Excel 365 without any extension with it. Have you try opening Excel without any extension?

Thank you,

Unfortunately, I don't have Excel 2019 to test. However, I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience. Thank you.

I am using Excel 2019 not 365.  It does not happen without Groupy.

If you group the lone tab to the group, then close just it, does it still happen?

Are you opening this group from a saved group?  If so, and you recreate it, does it still happen?

There are quite a few reports of this with Excel on the internet if you search.

Does it still happen if you block Excel from grouping, or disable Groupy?

I can confirm that I also have this problem with Excel on Microsoft 365, and it's probably been happening for a couple of years though the quirks related to Excel seem more prevalent. The extra blank tab always occurs, but on my multi monitor setup there's a lot of weird stuff that happens like:

  • When opening a second file from file explorer, it will shrink down a full screen window, and sometimes move it to a different monitor
  • If I have multiple windows open, and then open a 3rd or more file it will sporadically move the windows around or freeze the windows for 4-5 seconds.
  • It's overall just kind of glitchy, and I don't see this behavior in really any other program so I definitely think it's Excel related (and may be more of Excel's fault than Groupy's, but still annoying.

Windows 11, Group 2 v2.3, Excel current version.

MS Office apps are indeed problematic - notifications from Outlook and auto grouping them (if thats turned on) is another issue we we are looking at.

We do hope it does not interrupt your workflow too much.

I am also experiencing this issue, though it occurs intermittently.

Disabling the option 'Show the Start Screen when this application starts' seems to reduce the frequency of the problem
