Galactic Civilizations Keeps Crashing

I was playing the game yesterday afternoon (oct 27), and everything was working fine. I came back to play it in the evening and now the game no longer works. It doesn't matter if I try to load a saved game or start a new one, the game always crashes. I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled it without any change.

What is rather annoying is there is nothing that comes up to say why the game has crashed so I can work through it and potentially fix it. Every other game I have every played will give an error code to help with that...its like Stardock wants to keep it secret. I just want to play the game and right now I can't. I'll only be patient with this for a couple of days and then I'll just demand a refund.

I tried adding the no launcher to see if that would work and I got this...not sure if this helps or not.

Have you tried doing a verify files in Steam? If one or more of your files have become corrupted that can help. Although it's normal for a verify to report 3 or 4 files to reload, since they are customized on startup.

I am just doing this right now, however I do want to note that the game worked for almost 4 weeks and then just stopped.

Did you recently update Windoze or your anti-virus?

If yes on AV you may need to whitelist the game the AV thinking the game is malicious has been known to do this 

Windows Defender may also be at fault

I didn't update either manually but they may have auto updated.  I'll check those out.

I finally got the game to start again BUT I still can't actually play it as every time I try and load a saved game or start a new one it crashes. Below is the debug.err file.

So the game is now loading BUT whenever I try and load a saved game OR start a new game it then crashes. So I effectively cannot pla the game at all.

Been there and its useless, provides ZERO actual support. I'm at the point where if I don't get any help I may have to start phoning every 15 minutes.

Hey, I am sorry you had negative experience with all the crashes!

 

Are you using any mods? Have you installed any mods in the past?
Have you tried running the game with admin rights?
Have you tried disabling anti-virus while playing the game?

 

Could you provide a save file of the game it crashes? (I know you said, that new game crashes as well, but the save file could still help)

As mysteriously as the crashing started, it has now stopped and I have been playing it again. I finished my saved game and have started a new one as well with no issues. I hadn't done anything specific, just left it alone for almost 3 days and when I ran the game again it worked.
