Fences 5 - Search for a Shortcut

All my icons are organized in ten different panels. The question is, how can I search for a specific shortcut by name now?

Right now I have to go through all ten and search for it manually.

On a normal desktop, you could just start typing the shortcut name, and it will find it automatically. What's the alternative for when you're using Fences 5?

Thank you

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. You said,

How do you that on a desktop without Fences?

On Windows 10, you just start typing on your keyboard, and whatever keys you pressed are getting searched among your shortcuts. Same with any folder on Windows.

Even if you don't have that feature, it's a good one to implement, because finding a shortcut in many will become pretty difficult pretty quickly.

I suggest having a shortcut that would open up a search bar where you can start typing, and as you type, it would unfold the right panel and select the right shortcut. If you type another character and it's a different shortcut in a different panel, then the first one would close and the new one would open, selecting the right shortcut.

Sort of like the Spotlight search on Mac or Windows search when you press the Windows key on Windows.

I am trying to reproduce it, without Fences, but I don't remember I can do that. Typing on the keyboard while your Start panel open or just with while your mouse on the desktop?

No, you don't have to open the Start panel on Windows. Just click anywhere on the desktop so nothing else is selected and start typing.

If that doesn't work, you need to make sure the option "Select the typed item in the view" is selected in any of your folder's settings on Windows. The alternative to that option is the "Automatically type into a search bar."

It's a very convenient feature. When you're in any of your folders with lots of files, you just start typing, and it will instantly select the appropriate file for you.

Yes, I just figured it out, and after some test, it still the same with Fences turn on. Just that if you have the selected shortcut in a rollup Fences you can not actually see it get selected. Here a short video when I type ShareX. ShareX get selected, and pressing "Enter" will open it.

Just that, it will not work for shortcut on Portal Fences.

Thank you for your input!

Here is a scenario. I have ten panels with roughly 20 shortcuts in each. It's about 200 shortcuts.

First I did a search in "Start" to check if I had that application installed. Yes indeed, it's installed. Good. Now I need to figure out if I have that shortcut in any of my panels on the desktop. How do I do it? Is there any way to unroll/roll all of them at once?

Thank you

From what I know, there is no other way to unroll your Fences, the only way to unroll it is by you need to move your mouse to that specific Fence one at a time. However, I have forwarded your request to the Stardock Support Team for their review and recommendations. We really do appreciate your feedback, Thanks

You can actually double-click panels to permanently expand them, but it would be helpful to have a shortcut that would expand/collapse all of them at the same time.
