Winblinds and DesktopX tasking my 3.06Ghz and why are they even needed?

Okay... Ive been playing around with winblinds and Winstyles for a little while now. I have also tried a little DesktopX action and what I have found is that it taskes the processor a lot. Especially when running games. So whats the deal? Is there a way to design WinXP "themes" why do you have to run these other programs to skin your desktop when WinXP has skinning built in. I understand that DesktopX does more then skin explorer but it also seems like a disadvantage when you want to run processor intense programs over DesktopX. It seems to me that these programs especially winblinds and winstyles shouldnt even be needed... If there are winXP "Themes" out there or tutorials on how to design them would someone let me know so I never have to run a program that loads my processor the way WinBlinds does. Thanks.

If WindowBlinds is "loading your processor" you obviously have something wrong on your system.  WindowBlinds does much more than XP can do on its own.  (WindowBlinds was also around way before Microsoft decided to start "skinning")

DesktopX *can* use resources with animation.  There is nothing in an "XP theme" that can compare to what DesktopX can do.

WinStyles is needed so that you can package and load themes with the stuff in it that you *want* not what somebody told you that you should have.

If you don't like the freedom of customization, then don't use the software.  You can't make MS "themes" as they are in a MS format

I think that you will find that people will take a little resource hit in exchange for being able to make their desktop what they want it to be.

there is nothing wrong with my system... infact upon uninstalling winblinds my games would run smooth and fast agian. Window blinds my have added a few features but nothing that can really justify the lagging delay it causes while using high priority programs. I also understand that DesktopX does stuff way more extensive and customizable then XP but yet agian it taxes my cpu when running games and graphic programs... And WinStyles comes packaged with whatever the suite builder chose to add not what you necessarely wanted (although you can change it). And on the subject of .msstyles format there is a way to make themes in that format and styleXP does this... I just found that out after some research... When I wrote this post I wasnt looking for a "Like it or Leave it" answer as I have found in your reply... rather I was looking for some constructive advice on how to go about making themes that windows could use rather than having to run an additional program to skin you windows. A lot more is possible with the bare WINXP than one may think after all thats what Winblinds integrates with in order to give you the desired look and feel. But if anyone else has some advice on programs to use to build skins please reply. thank you

ShepJP : This issue (StylesXP vs. WindowBlinds) was discussed here and on other sites (for example neowin.net) a thousand times... I run DesktopX and Windowblinds the whole day at work and at home both on a 2.4 GHz and work just as normal. At work massivly with Office products and an intensive amount of Access databases with VBA-tasks and queries and graphics programs like Photoshop and Corel and at home I do some gaming and webdesign and so on. I couldn't stand my desktop being standard XP anymore. And another point : Everyone is free to make a special user-account for gaming on XP that doesn't load Windowblinds and/or DesktopX on startup. Pretty simple...

And on the subject of .msstyles format there is a way to make themes in that format and styleXP does this...

an msstyle is not a "theme".  it is a "skin".  A theme consists of all sorts of elements (like wallpapers, cursors, etc.)

WindowBlinds runs very natively.  Unless you are running something with a compatibility issue (which is why the exclusion list is there) then there is no reason for there to be a system issue.

post I wasnt looking for a "Like it or Leave it" answer as I have found in your reply...

I guess since your initial post basically said that the products were either system hogs or there was no sense in them and wanted to know how to customize without them, I kinda figured you weren't looking for any real advise but were just complaining.  If you want constructive advise, approach it in a constructive manner.

Also, please read what you said about WinStyles.  You said: "And WinStyles comes packaged with whatever the suite builder chose to add not what you necessarily wanted (although you can change it)."  And, who packages them?  Ummmm...well, anyone can.  that's the beauty of it.  If you like a whole bunch of single components, then you can make your own package and only include what you want.

Before you get in too deep and cause people to say things that they will regret later, please read up on the programs that you are talking about at: www.stardock.com/support

One more thing...
Why is there not a section for StyleXP themes yet one for LiteStep?

Refer to my "read about it" comment above.  You may want to learn who owns this site and learn who makes WindowBlinds and StyleXP (as you will then be able to answer your own question )

I would guess that it's because StyleXP is a competing product to WindowBlinds. LiteStep is a shell - one that has been around for many years. It is an alternative to the Explorer shell. You can use WindowBlinds and LiteStep together.

You know for being admin people and tech support you have very little skills in being friendly and helpful..You always say its the customers system, But now that I have started to read your message board it is becoming quite obvious lots of people are having trouble with the software....Like I said,,It needs to be more user friendly and Not Geek friendly...While I am a geek..I still have issues with WB and My System Is Brand New...A life Book Fujitsu,,Has 400Mhz FSB, 768DDR at 266Mhz, a2Ghz P4M proccesor and A DVD burner Oh BTW its a Laptop...Only purchased March 14th I installed on a brand new syst and still get load on startup problems also WBload .exe error We are closing do you want to send an error report all the time..I guess all the time I spent in school and the 20,000 I spent on my degree was wasted Because you say its My system....Guess I am just as stupid as everyone else that is having issues....

Drop125: Chances are very high that another app you run does not get on with Windowblinds. Have you tried disabling all startup items except WB? Do so and see if it fails still at startup. If it doesn't then start adding them back one at a time until you find the culprit. When you find it add it to the exclusion list and let stardock support know what the filename is and how they can get hold of it to test.

If it fails even with all other stuff disabled then it may be the video drivers. Please bear in mind that people without problems seldom post to say all is running fine. There are probably thousands of contented customers out there who never had a problem.

this is funny...

there are many people who do not have the hit on the system they way your explaining it. Some have high CPU power and then you and others don't. This is why it could be you computer.

BUT

I won't say WB or DX is the cause nor would I say its your computer. What I would say is that more data is needed to come to a conclusion about what WB and DX is doing or not doing to your system

Also, I read that you said only during running specific programs.

What programs are those? There will always be on program that doesn't like the other and depending on what you use you might choose to not have windowblinds or DX, or only run it when your not using the program or set your computer to run with all programs (if possible) or... a whole lot of options.

It could help to say what programs your running. You might find someone who has the same program and they did something and fixed the issue.

My problams with WB are only once in awhile on Win98 it is about every 1 or2 weeks it stops skinning...It acts like the Trial version but not all the time, also it fails to load the WBload.exe??? I think is the one I see most often...I only have the3.51 now and It has run sortof okay..My problem now is that When I click on a dropdown menu it "captures a part of the Wallpaper and wont let me see the drives available...But its not a Start up Issue..It only fails to load at startup maybe acoupla times...Also When I loaded that new Beta4.00B it really gave me issues so I switched to 4.00 and its just fine...Ps To Karma Girl...I do Full System Support On AS400 IBM systems Also Nova Net, Unova and Intermec Wireless Data ..I work on Network and Wireless Networks for about 70percent of all Industrial Companys in America and Plenty of Forieghn Locations With offices In Austraila and Englend Visit www.ryzex.com....And you will see what we do..However I was not trying to offer tech support to Chris..I was just tring to state that when I loaded 4.00B My troubles started all over again...And that I had to Remove files AFTER I rAN YOUR UNINSTAL APP..There was still many folders with OD and Stardock all over the place...Well not all over the place But in program files And resources..My point still is and I belive the Shep was also pointing out that the software is a FUN software..other than aVisual and theme app it is not a neccesary app, it just makes your desktop more functional for a specific individual...I also have no startup items other than WB..I do not use Any of the Outlook or Messenger stuff. My home computer is strictley for 3D and Photoshop..I have No games or any other apps that really do not pertain to GraphicDesighn. It is just the artistic part I like..I also do not use DesktopX because it is so resourse intensive...Also for some clarification..If you do not want people disscusing their issues here ,Then it should nopt be a Public Forum...I was Scolded litely by Karma Girl for Citing my experiences with WB, If you dont want input from other Citizens Then you should make it private and Not a Message board...
