Watch your XP updates...again!!!!

So what the hell is the name of it so I can get rid of it?


I was on the phone with Comcast for over 2 hours with this problem. I'm pretty sure I was experiencing it before Friday though. I'll try to connect to a site, it will say 'page cannot be displayed' then I'll refresh and it'll come right up. Sometimes, the page won't be displayed after 2 or 3 refreshes and then on the 4th it will come right up. Sometimes it just crawls....been fine today.

You know, I've been having the same problem myself.... Aaaarrgghhh....

I have been having the same annoying problems. I uninstalled and I am back in business...yeah!!!

In Control Panel, Add Remove Programs, Scroll down to Windows XP Hotfix. If you have 811493 installed, it should be listed there. Click on change/remove to uninstall it.

I did that but i don't get an option to remove.

Click on the Hotfix (to select it) in the list of programs and on that same line you should see either the change/remove or just remove on the right hand side. Press that button.

Does anyone know why 811493 would be in my available updates today when it was already installed on April 24th. Shows that date in the install history and is listed in add/remove. I had removed it once before the April date. Also when I chose to remove it in add/remove, it gave me a list of programs that says they may not work properly if 811493 is removed. The list looks like recent programs I have installed. New firewall, anti-virus and a few other programs that are new. Not sure what to do. BTW the only thing I did this morning was a security upgrade and 811493 was not there this morning, but it's there now waiting to be installed. Whew!!!! that was a mouthful

I do not get any option to remove. i know what your telling me to do but its just not there to do it

Microsoft re-issued this bulletin on May 28, 2003 to advise on the availability of an updated Windows XP Service Pack 1 patch. This revised patch corrects the performance issues that some customers experienced with the original Windows XP Service Pack 1 patch.

Microsoft originally issued this bulletin on April 16, 2003. Subsequent to that date, Microsoft has received reports of performance problems with the patch from some Windows XP customers. Microsoft has investigated this issue and confirmed that there can be performance problems when the patch is applied to Windows XP Service Pack 1 systems. Microsoft is actively working on a revised patch for Windows XP Service Pack 1 and will re-issue that patch when it has been completed and fully tested. The existing Windows XP SP1 patch does address the security vulnerability discussed in this security bulletin.

Am i reading this right? If I have SP1, I am still waiting to install this until they hammer out a revision?

This problem is unrelated to the security vulnerability discussed in this bulletin, however the problem has caused some customers to notice performance degradation on Windows XP SP1 systems after applying the patch.

Microsoft has corrected this problem and re-issued this bulletin on May 28, 2003 to advise on the availability of a revised patch for Windows XP Service Pack 1.

Thanks, Ingui Would you, if you were me, just install the update. Do you think it will just overwrite the 811493 that I already have installed?

I myself would Un-install the first patch.

I updated, it wrote over it.

Dark Mist - if I remember right when you first install XP and then the SP1, it asks you if you want to backup files in case you want to un-install the service pack. If you clicked yes then all your updates are archived and thus removeable. Click on SP1 and see if it shows the 'remove' tab.....if it doesn't I think you're stuck. If it does then I wrote a paragraph for nothing !!!

SP1 is removable yes but this update ain't for some reason

Might try installing the 'new' 811493 right over top of the old and then either un-install it or see if the new patch works

The new 811493 has not been fixed for the performance issue. Only install if you are running a server, desperately need the patch and can stand the performance loss.

the last few updates from microsoft have seemed to bum rush my computer. losing connection with msn, programs quit responding etc etc. ended removing three of the last three updates received and my system is back to normal finally.

I read somewhere that you should diable your virus scanner before installing 811493. That worked for me.

I have a Q811943. Is that the same thing?
