Good Idea, these sound good to me!

Yes...provided there was no increase or fragmentation. Many sites end up with simply too many sections to ever find anything....[Devart springs to mind....though once that was less of an issue when your recent posts remained linked to your profile]...

General... "aye"

User Help... "aye"

Skinning... "aye"

Does that count as 3 votes? ('_')
Sounds good to me too

3 sections is a good idea. Makes things easier, especially for newbies to find some information.

Ok, and who the hell would dare to go into the help forum?
Not a good idea, people would only go there if they need help.

If it aint broken, dont fix it >

Ok, and who the hell would dare to go into the help forum?

People who need help, and those that wish to help them, without wading through "general" threads.     This would also be an excellant place to post a few sticky threads, covering the most common, "frequently asked questions", such as "how do I install a WindowBlinds skin?"......

/me is totally in favor of  this, but agrees with Paul, no more than the 3 mentioned.

On the other hand a help forum is great... I often patrol this board looking to help ppl out... usually with puter Q's but that still helps validate a help forum.

I think people would only hang in 1 forum, just stick to this design...
its a msgboard right? not a forum!

It's been a wee bit of a problem in recent times.....the board has been somewhat busier than of old, so segmenting it just a little may help. There WAS a time when threads and comments were extremely few and far between...

Good choices

Hrrmmm...don't like change. If it ain't broke don't try an fix it. > Oh, go ahead. Maybe it's better to place the clutter into different piles.

Good ideas... I was wondering about the 'for skinners only' thread that proposed a section here for new skinners, experimental ones... would there still be consideration for a section like that?

This is the kind of stuff I could be good at, but when I read the comments and see all the things that can happen I feel too intimidated...

I would love to see it, as I said above, at the very least a skinning board (This could include Help) and a Grneral. I am kind of sick of the none skinning related post, they kind of keep me away from the boards these days.

I like the idea.
For the most part, I stick to the skinning related threads and also try to help out when I can. Separate threads would make it a lot easier to stick to the section one is interested in.

I'd go with a 4th option 'Whining forum for ignorant fools'

Well, I've wished WC had separate forums for sometime. Keeping it down to 3 sections is fine. It shouldn't overwhelm and fragment the overall board as Jafo and others mentioned.

I assume the Skinning section serves the purpose of the forum idea that MadIce has presented. And the General section handles idle chit chat, general tech threads, movie threads and so on.

I also assume admins will be able to move threads that have been created in the wrong forum.

As for for would then lurk and answer questions in the help forum: Lots of people. People like me: I'm not a skinner so I try to help out best I can by answering questions.

I agree with mormegil, the number of 'general' totally-out-there posts has increased dramatically over the last couple of months, and it does sometimes keep me away from these boards - or at the very least make it harder to actually spot the good threads.

I am all in favour of the 3 boards idea, and those sections sound good Frogboy - there will still be 'over-spill' and the irrelevant posts in all the forums but at least it will cut it down quite a bit, and getting all those help posts together in a 'User Help' board is a great idea, that will really clear up the main 'General' board.

Go for it

I'm with the Hipster.

One request though: could it be possible to have a sort of "view the three boards as one" option in ones profile? Otherwise things might get troublesome to keep track off (if you want to track all three, that is).

I guess General would be the BS section.
Skinning would be for all for different areas.
User help for installing the different programs and other non related help.

Sounds good to me.

sounds sensible. it can get hard to find what you want some of the time these days

i suspect there will be a steady flow of threads turning up in the wrong groups, so as long as the admins can move threads to the right group, it should work just fine

I like the idea of three boards. I like what Old Crab said though: Clutter into different piles. It should work better this new way though, than it does now.

/me says go for it!

Hum...

I still think requests for help will be less answered if they are in a category of their own. They get more "exposure" when mixed in with the rest. A lot less people will see them and therefore answer them.

As for the other two categories, if we do that, we'll have to get really tough on "off topic" subjects. If a skinning question derives in a general discussion, we'll have to be strict to keep the subject directly related to skinning. Otherwise, we'll end up with two general messageboard.

And yes, for those who dislike categories, it would be nice to have the option of viewing the messages of all three forums listed on one page.

/me *doh*
why does paxx have to keep on saying things i agree with that run counter to what i just posted?

now and then i would look for ObjectBar questions in the help board, but you may be right, perhaps i will do this less than i do now.

as for thread topic drift
a bit of a fact of life.
