7,8? Time to upgrade then! Titan X SLI or bust! :D

I upgraded myself just 2 weeks ago, but i still have unopened shiny boxes in my room, cause i cant put it all together now, as i need my current computer to finish some work. Cause of the MOBO replacement i am going to do fresh Win 10 install (had to buy new license cause of it, grrrrr), which will in turn  require installing all my working apps and all apps in general anew too....

Anyway, right now i am still running:

i7 980x @3,78GHz cooled by Zalman CNPS 10X Performa cooler

gigabyte X58A UD7

24GB Kingston DDR3 XMP 1600MHz  (running at stock 1333 though)

Geforce GTX 580

intel X25M gen2 80GB SSD

intel 530 250GB SSD

WD  Caviar Black 2TB

WD Caviar Green 2TB

all of that inside Fractal Design Define R2 Titanium powered by Seasonic S12D 750W...

bolded parts to be replaced probably next week by:

i7 6850K 3,6GHz cooled by Corsair H105 AiO (will try to OC the shit out of it, 4,4GHz with a bit of luck)

Gigabyte X99-P SLI

32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000MHz DDR4

2x EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 FTW

Samsung EVO 250GB SSD

Samsung EVO 500GB SSD

hurrah! the thing should render about 5x faster within Octane Render, so its going to be some workflow boost. Not to mention i will be able to play all the recent games i would want to at full details, something i havent been able since cca 2012. Not that i cared too much, but it was bit disheartening just 3 years (2013) in into the life of my previous rig to decrease the details to LOW on Call of Duty Ghosts and even then it ran like shit. May happen again 3 years down the road, but not now...

I have a question, guys. I read on gaming sites that more than 8 GB of ram is overkill. Is this true?  Opinions wanted.....

I had 28 GB installed and reduced it to 16 after I read than more than 8 is overkill.

8 GB is not overkill these days IMO. I wish I had 16 GB for GalCiv 3!

I have 20 gigs in my desktop and 16 in my laptop and I don't play video games.

Probably stated by people who are jealous because they don't have more than 8 ....or think they are using a game-only console.

If you do more than 'just' play solitaire you'll easily find circumstances where 8 is patently inadequate.

Example...currently of my 32 gig 22.3 is being used.

Yes, 8 is minimalist at this point.  At what is basically an idle, I've got 5 soaked up right now.  When your internet browser can use a gig of ram, you can't do much of anything with less.  The more games get away from 32 bit limitations, the more 16 will be the low end of gaming machines.  I'll be doing 64 on my next system, it's too big of an unknown factor for me to do 32 again.  It would be very easy for a game like Ashes or GC3 to utilize 30 plus gigs of ram running super large maps.

Put your other twelve back in that depends on how many opponents you want or how big you like your maps.
