Jason Aldean can’t wait get to his girlfriend alone in the torpid “Just Gettin’ Started.”
A frisky guitar opens the single, setting a randy tone. She bounced out of her house once she saw his car. She came up to the driver’s seat and gave him a passionate kiss. He rested his head on her forehead and took a moment to breathe. He thought it was going to have to take her back inside. She gets into the passenger side. He turns onto the main road and while at the traffic light, he immediately hits the pedal, going to 40. The police car stays behind him, watching. Time is moving so fast with her. There is never enough time. (“I knew the minute that I picked you up/It was gonna be a wild ride/You kissed me like you couldn't get enough/Barely made it out of your drive/Burn a little rubber at the red light/Got a little warning from the blue lights/It's only going 9 o'clock but feels more like midnight.”)
In the chorus, she glances over at him with a warm smile and he has to remember that he’s driving. The radio is low. Somehow, they don’t need to speak and they understand each other. The quiet is enough. (“We ain't even turned up the radio/Ain't been two miles down the road/The way you look at me baby I don't know/If we even gonna make it to the party/Yeah we gotta whole lot of moon light left/Already having the time of my lives/And we're just getting started tonight.”)
The wind is flipping her blonde hair around, framing her face as she lies back in the seat. Her flip flops are on the mat. She asks him if they can stop for some beer and then says they don’t really have to go the party. She’ll see the good stuff online anyway. (“Girl you already got the window down/And you got your seat laid back/I ain't even made it halfway to town/And you're already talking about a 6 pack/Already got your shoes off/And you talking about slippin' off/No we ain't even found your friends saying/You already wanna get lost.”)
The chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, he’s laughing and falling over himself. She’s grinning, clearly enjoying him losing his cool. (“Ain't had a drink and I'm tore up/Ain't even had a taste of your love/But girl the crazy thing is/We're just getting warmed up.”)
An extended chorus is sung to end the single. (“We ain't even turned up the radio/Ain't been two miles down the road/The way you look at me baby I don't know/If we even gonna make it to the party/Yeah we gotta whole lot of moon light left/Already having the time of my lives/And we're just getting started tonight/And we're just getting started tonight.”)
Aldean has one thing on his mind. Unfortunately, it seems to be sex all the relationship is based on. Passion may have been the aim but still comes across as repressing. There’s really no letting go.
The impotent “Just Gettin’ Started” is no, just no.
