Would you really make choices that up the DC?

I mean, it's pretty much shooting yourself in the foot, everyone should realize that. The benefits would have to be pretty huge for me to consider them, other than doing it for shits and giggles.

Maybe something more interesting can be done if it affects others instead of you. Like the minor civs. Or other playthroughs through some meta-game magic. Or even other players that choose to take on a sort of light vs. darkness mode that is affected by the choices the community makes.

It depends.  Getting powerful loot early on can be very very useful.

I have not yet seen the doom counter matter to me. Right now, I always accept more doom.

I too don't care for more doom. I'm playing on Insane and the Doom counter hardly goes past 50%.

Okay, so let me get this right.  If I get myself a shiny sword or find treasure the DC goes up?

Well the game is in early beta...

But you are correct, once you find the SK's location, the DC can't go fast enough to be an issue.

Some quests feature choices that increase the doom counter.

First impression would suggest that if you do anything to help you win then you get closer to losing.   8|

Unless the choices you make are bad choices which you wouldn't normally make, so that the only reason that you would make them, was to lose.  But the object of the game is to win isn't it, so why would you want to win by losing?  I think that's right.

I know that can't be right, so there is some reason for it that I am not getting at this moment in time.

It's called a trade-off. You might go for the choice that reduces doom counter by 1, and gain a handful of mana points. Or you might choose the new elite unit and increase the doom counter by 1. You may be interested in the elite unit because it will help you with the game more than the mana points would, and so you think that the doom counter going up isn't so bad.

I have just remembered something that Frog said about some things that you do will get you noticed by the SK, and the whole idea is not to get noticed until you are ready.  So the reason for it maybe something along those lines.

Sounds to me the same dilema as "Would you get a mortgage to buy a house?".
