IMG_2129Stardock’s lead game developer, Cari “Elf” Begle, who led the effort in Galactic Civilizations I, The Political Machine, Galactic Civilizations II and part of Fallen Enchantress (until she went on maternity leave) will be leaving us on May 1 to focus on being a mom.  She’s one of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met. She’s an amazing developer, a kind hearted person and is always eager to take on new challenges. She was the one who did most of our network programming (including the multiplayer in The Political Machine and was critical in fixing the MP issues Demigod had when it first launched).

For now, that leaves me as the interim lead game developer at Stardock until we can find someone to try to step into her shoes.

CariElf will still be around, but not in any official capacity.  I’ll miss her daily presence. She always brightens up any room she’s in with her infectious positive attitude and excitement to do something new.

Congratulations, Cari. Motherhood is THE most important job in the world (more so these days that it is being so much neglected...). Hats off to all women who, like you, decide to focus on it.

Now go ahead and raise the next generation of top developers!

I agree 100% with this message.

Thank you everyone for your support and good wishes.  I'll miss being a daily part of Stardock but my little girl is definitely worth it.

Also, MM77: my husband, CantinaFly, asserts that he is the Monarch For Life of the Carielf Fan Club but that you may retain your post of President. (He really got a kick out of that post.)

We've always had a really good community here in our corner of the internet, from our beta testers to modders or just the guys and gals hanging out showing us love.  It's been an honor.

I'll see you guys around. :)

It was a strange temple.

The altar had no candles, but there was light shining from it--or rather, from the 21" monitor placed on it, and from the optical mouse.  There was a keyboard, and speakers on the altar too, and all of these were connected to a ghostly quiet computer that nevertheless was running.

Stacked in front of the altar were cases of Mt. Dew and various forms of chocolate, apparently offerings from followers.

What was even odder was that there were absolutely no images or symbols of any kind in the temple, unless you counted all those zeros and ones that were carved all over the place.

Tell her to work from home or she doesn't get any of the maternity benefits.

Just sayin'. >_>
