Too many interviews, not enough... LH?
gimme the game already :)

Edit: I can't help but feel that the undead will be the new "pet race" from the developers, being more interesting than the others >_<

How come Tom Chick is playing the beta and we're not? Srsly.

Having paid for the original Elemental's Collector's Edition (I placed a great deal of faith in you guys), I was kinda hoping that we'd get early access if other people are, too.

I would assume he was getting an early look at the game.

But but... We wants too :P
(Think it as a positive thing that at least some of  your fans are impatient about seeing the new changes ;))

Understandable for peeps (particular those who are loyal fans who've stuck around since early WOM) to want/expect to get their hands on any beta as early as possible.

But realistically it's also understandable that Stardock let select media types get their mitts on early version of releases (such as in this situation).  Media = advertising = revenue = more investment into the game = good.

Presumably beta not ready for hardcore fans who will give it a good thrashing and report everyone single pixel that is out of place (but ok for a quick review in the media).  That's fair enough.

Exactly. Previews are usually accompanied by atrocious NDA's such as not being allowed to comment on any bug in public (some games even go as far as to demand nothing bad is said at all).

This is like them showing him a tech demo. That's very different from putting something playable in the hands of actual consumers, consumers that talk about good and bad regardless of it being an alpha/beta.

In other words, they want to build some hype but they know their product isn't ready to do that on its own currently.

Well where is OUR early look at the game? We PAID GOOD MONEY for Elemental War of Magic and it was a flop and a half. Don't WE deserve to get an EARLY look at the game? I mean seriously who is Tom Chick compared to those whot BOUGHT your game??? Huh? Huh? Tell me Huh?

You also received Fallen Enchantress, and just need to be patient for Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes. :)

And why can't TOM CHICK be PATIENT along side the rest of us?? huh? huh? Tell me that? Why should HE get first crack at it? How many copies did HE BUY of the origional game? You guys need to get your PRIORITIES straight. WE THE PAYING PUBLIC deserve to get this stuff FIRST! not these freeloaders who sit around waiting on free games just because they can write better than I can? pfffft.

Yeah, its not like Tom Chick is a widely read game reviewer who can influence the public into buying games...

Nah..that couldn't be it.

Lucky I have children so I find it easy to ignore willie.  Lots of practice.

Does anyone else suspect that willie has spent the last few days posting drunk or high? :) Or is this his usual energy level?

I found it funny how he said he wasn't going to spoil it but then let loose a pretty big spoiler for the new campaign lol. Sounds like they are trying to wright Relias as a tragic Hero that just can't do anything right. What's he going to do in the next expansion summon a new evil Titan? Got to hand it to him though the world would be a lot more boring without Relias. And here I was thinking this expansion would be him getting to redeem himself, and purify Ceresa so we could have a Druid character or something.

As for the mechanics changes they talked about i'm not really sure I like some of the stuff. First one that rubbed me wrong was the binary hero choice. So every so often two heroes show up, and your forced to pick one. Why? Why would you ever turn down the other guy? In FE now it's a financial thing if I have enough money to pay both I can hire both. So why remove that logic, and make it kind of a set in stone gamey mechanic? It also seems to take kind of a cool thing from the Betrayers ability to hire both Kingdom/Empire heroes. That said I do agree with the idea of making hero acquisition less of a luck of the draw map generation thing as that could get very unfair, and annoying.

Second kind of weird thing was the new way heroes level. So it's no longer picking random options but just a standard talent tree? Are the trees themselves random at all? Seems like it will get boring. Once again I agree with what your trying to do making it less luck based but I think some of the old system should carry over. Maybe make it like Fallout 3 where you can level towards being a fighter/mage or whatever but then also choose a random perk. With the perks just being minor things that add extra flavor like the Dragon Slayer perk or Man vs Fallen.

I'm looking forward to the new tactical battle elements though. Even if Axes sound really overpowered since Cleave was always the best. Line of Axemen sounds like an easy win. Especially if it still has backswing. Since I had come to grow to love that almost as much as Counterattack. I wonder if this means there will be zero mana abilities standard for Mage heroes now. In any case i'm glad they stepped back, and realized having the tactical side be boring just so Empire building would determine the win was not that fun. This is will probably be the biggest improvement to fun factor for the game to me.
