A Sad Week

As you age, the people of your youth start to pass away. It is the inevitable march of time, and the undeniable truth that no one lives forever.  After a while, you come to expect hearing of someone passing that brought you joy or made you laugh.

This week was very hard for me.  On Thursday, Steve Jobs, who helped create the Microcomputer industry passed away.  His vision and tenacity helped give me a career.  But worst of all, he was my age.

Then today, Al Davis passed away.  Al was the Raiders.  For as long as I knew they existed, he was a part of the organization.  A renegade and a winner, Al gave me my favorite passion.

Steve and Al will be missed.  Others will step forward to take what they created forward into the future.  But for me, their successors will not be them.  It is indeed a sad week for many of us.

 

Rest in Peace Steve and Al.

I know exactly how you feel. Steve Jobs was and is one of my personal heroes and I was saddened, if not surprised, to read of his passing so young.

As you might imagine, I am more affected by Al than Steve.  They tried to give one away today but pulled it out at literally the last second.  it makes dedicating the game to him a little more meaningful when you win it.

Young? Yea, when they are your age, they are young.  I heard he left a 4 year plan.  With any luck, that gives us 4 more years of innovation before someone else hopefully will step forward.

Yea - we have been giving too many away over the past 9 years.  I am glad they reneged at the last second.

Come on, Steve was only 56, that's a young age to drop dead by most anyone's schedule. This was posted from an iPad.

But I am not arguing that he was not young. I am not a fossil yet! (I am one year younger).  However, I still remember my much younger sister when she was about 9.  She was talking to Big Brothers, Big Sisters and asked for one "not too old, but not too young.  About middle aged".  The counselor asked her how old that was "About 25". :grin:
