New lease system

Just finished a .60 game and here's what I found with the leasing system. The numbers are the total cost listed in order from the outright buy to Mitrosoft:

Colony Ship:
584
493
871
869

Yes, leasing with the second option makes colony ships cheaper than buying them outright! Same goes for Soil Improvement:

472
386
743
869

Diplomatic Translators:
7440
10290
8606
17836

Frictionless Clothing:
4448
5379
5194
9582

Summary: What the numbers above seem to say is that for relatively cheap things, the second option is the way to go. For more expensive goodies, buying outright is cheapest, but the third option is the best lease long-term.

I do like the way the new leases work - you can't rush-buy a trade good with only a 16bc per turn payment, like the old mitrosoft gave you. It makes most of the lease options a lot more difficult to choose because you could be taking a 60bc a turn hit for those early TGs. What I ended up doing in my tiny, rare, painful game is building up a little on tech, rush buying Diplo Trans (bought them outright), then trading the tech to all the other empires. This reduced the time my economy was idle to just a few turns.

Trade in the new version definitely gives you more $$ and better deals with the AI and minors than the previous version, especially with a high diplo race pick and diplo translators.

Well, the problem IMHO is all that figures are totally unrealistic..
Even assuming a non-inflation world, fixed rate leases work with an monthly payment at a rate that is usually higher as the maturity increases, in some rare case it's the opposite, very rarely do rates curves have "gaps" with a medium term rate less than shorter and longer ones, and lastly and above all rates are better when amounts are greater !
And I write that from a big bank's Treasury dealing room LOL !

I think I'm going to have to break out the "Diplomonster" settings again.

(+60% diplomacy, plus Populist => +80% diplomacy at start, if memory serves)

Twirlip,

Those are the settings I used for this game - plus I had Diplo Trans. I'm still wiping the alien drool off my boots.

I was playing painful, so I'll have to bump it up to Crippling and Maso to see the effect there.

Unless you consider that the game will be over long before you finish paying your mitresoft lease.

And that's the point. The game is over long before all but the first leases you get, are paid. In effect late game, it's totally free money to go with mitresoft.
