I'll be having a look later! Would have now, but I'm at work but the firewall/proxy server has reported that the website is prohibited.....whoops! ;)

I'll want to see the rules before joining up though! But I am interested...... this sort of thing interests me more than the metaverse does. :)

If it was a snake it woud probably bite me, but I can't see the email addy to upload the completed game to, care to post that? Or point to where I missed it? :)

Nice job getting this started, btw.

(blush) Euhhh well...actually there isn't any e-mail address yet where people can post their games. I myself have very, very little time, so we are still looking for:

People who are:
- good at creating websites (for our website. I don't have time to keep it up to date). Would be nice to have a bulletin board and some more info on the rules etc.
- good at modding (to create 'games of the month/ week' and to verify games from players)
- fanatical galciv players (to invent the scoring system)
- who want to get involved (think about the rules, check savegames, write some stuff, offer help etc.)

Most of the rules/ scoring system/ medal system/ game checks/ website etc. still have to be invented and created. So any ideas and help are welcome.

It would be nice to have a small team of people who will work together in this. Ichimaru has already offered his help in managing/ creating the website (with the help of someone else). Ellestar was the one with the main idea, so I hope he will have some time to do the 'general coördinating stuff' (maybe till Stardock takes over ;) )

Because I am really short on time, the job I see for myself is to get this thing started till some dedicated people take it off my shoulders :D

i would like to see some weird games with conditions later on:

one incredible good civ vs all subnormal evil civs. (human has to play as evil)

random intelligences/alignments.

etc...

just to spice things up.

I have a fully operational forum and have set up a GOTM forum. I can assign moderators to the forums once registered. Forum accepts uploads, etc. Player Tytan is also one of the Admins on the site.
Address is here: http://galciv.wcfamily.com

Looking good Sedennial!!

But for now ellestar made us an upload location at:

http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85972

And a FAQ about uploading on Apolyton forum

http://apolyton.net/forums/misc.php?action=faq&page=12

Just upload your zipped savegame (both .sav file and directory).

-----
What to do next:
- find out what system works best, and decide which one to use.
- both ellestar and I are quite busy, so we need someone with managerial skills and overview to coördinate this all. Any volunteers?

----
A small note: please use this forum if you did something or want something done, because it can be very confusing if we are discussing things in different forums.

Finished my game, uploaded it to the link provided with no problems. Cultural win, sent in the save one turn before the win, hopefully it will load-nextturn-end properly. Crappy metaverse score (190 or so I think, and no, I didn't submit it as per instructions :)), but who cares? It was fun to play. :)

BTW, for anyone reading this who isn't sure about giving it a try, go for it. The maps will be of varying difficulty from month to month, but I can say that at least for -this- month it's an easy map and thus a good one to get your feet wet in the Game Of The Month challenge.

Go Vorlin! Although I have seen a little bit of the map when I created it, I couldn't resist playing it for myself. I can only say that I am having lots of fun. This is the first time that I don't re-load a game when something bad happens and it really gets to me. I couldn't sleep last night because I kept thinking about that upcoming Torian-Altarian alliance :sniff!:

I am making a 'gameplay example' for everyone else to see my (victory?!?-)path.

ps. anyone intersted in writing a cool news story for the Galciv frontpage?

I can calculate scores etc. but i don't know what do you mean then you said about 'coordination'?

To Vorlin Varelse

I sould be more clear. You need to upload your savegame and add a reply in this tread http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=85972 with a link to a save.

----------

Also, don't post AAR's before competition ends because other players can gain information from them (and this is forbidden). You need to specially upload another player save to see map etc. before you completed your game - so this is just cheating, but accidentially reading AAR is another matter (but still forbidden).

I'm not sure how to provide a link to the save, can't recall that anything like that showed after I submitted it. How do I get that info?
To Ellestar:

Well with coördination I hoped you would be our 'grand leader' ;) Someone who could be contacted (by mail) if there are problems, who would make sure that this project keeps growing and who would have a final saying in disputes etc.

(and so we could put contact information on the website etc.)

To Vorlin:
Can't help you with that. I haven't got a clue :notsure:

It's mentioned in FAQ->How can I link to my files?

In the "View Files" (Upload http://apolyton.net/upload/ -> Click "View" button) page each file name is a link to the file. This is the url (right click and "Copy Link Location"(Mozilla) or "Copy Shortcut"(IE) to copy it) that you can use to link to your file.

BE CAREFULL! Files are only accessible if they are linked from page on the Apolyton server. This means that if you want to show the file on another site you must link to a forum thread or Directory entry linking to the file.

I just lost my game :( :sniff!: :(

It was a really fun game and it looked like i was winning, but I shouldn't have chosen the dark side. After the yor and the drengin were defeated, the rest allied itself against me. (:( I was really ahead on influence, tech, manufacturing, military but just couldn't take them all. I even tried giving away a few of my colonies for peace and an alliance with the arceans. But a few turns later someone accidently shot the Arcean leader, and guess what happened :(

Well, better luck next time :notsure:

I'll make a nice gameplay example and will put it on the website at the end of the month.
I'm going to have a go later. Downloaded the game just after lunch, will play it tonight, then I'll register with apolyton and upload tomorrow.....

This is such a good idea, as I'm really looking forward to seeing how other people play!

Bad luck dikdirk..... There's always next month!

Sorry to hear you lost dikdirk :(

I played the game and uploaded the save. Screwed up a bit though. When the cultural win was complete in 0 mts i saved. Not over yet. Saved again. Several turns on. I made peace with the Torians and oops, just didn't save that turn. I finally realize why all my cultural wins seem to take much longer than 12 mts: you can't be in a war. So i loaded the previous 1turntogo-save to only be at 58% cultural. Saved the next turn and that is the submitted save, it'll only be won in a couple of months.
The war with the Torians was completely unnecessary. Just before the dominancemessage appeared i researched battleship and wanted to see if i could do a military victory faster (very unlikely since i was hit by an extended xenophobia-attack which allways seems to arrive when the first systems start to rebel (it takes ages these days for a skulled system to flip :) )).

Great score Vorlin :)
I only managed 122. Maybe i'll download your save to see what it looks like.

I just saw your rules for scoring Ellestar. I think the military multiplier for a cultural victory doesn't make any sense. Why do you think it's necessary?

Although it was nice to be in command for a change this game was too easy for me (amazing to see everybody hugging and snuggling you when you finally check your diplomatic relationships. And i wasn't even in military top spot). I'd rather focus on surviving then on winning fast (i thought i did rather bad in this game until the stone started rolling, although i'm sure it can be won a lot quicker).

:sniff!:

I'm going to try to play this game of the month, hoping I'll finish it in time (I can usually only play one hour a day, sometimes more when my wife is tired and goes to sleep and does not see how late I go to bed ;p ). I have a quick question about save game and cultural victory: sometimes when loading a save game it takes a while before culture gets to its stable state. So I guess that saving every turn and sending the last save does not work for cultural victory, as one would need to wait for a few turns to finish.

Or am I completely confused ... :d
Hm i didn't thought about that. Thanks brab_alan. We need some ideas here...

Okay, got it posted on the Apol thread with a link.

I figure with cultural victories you'll just have to be a little more flexible, load the save game and play it till the victory condition pops up, changing as little as possible (i.e. no starting new builds, no buying anything, etc.). Since you can't have a cultural win when at war there should be no ongoing military action so that shouldn't be an issue at any rate.

I just loaded my save and checked it, took about 2 turns or so for it to finish up (instead of the 1 it would have taken if the full game state were saved). That's not too unreasonable. But I was -very- dominant culturally, if someone posted a game where they just barely had the culture win it might be uglier.

My MScore was 190, my metaverse score was 138, forgot that often they differ. Gotta love a scoring system that gives you 3 different 'total' scores. *rolls eyes*

I posted mine too on apolyton.

Very interesting Vorlin, to see someone else's game. Yours is a lot more lively then mine. The Arceans are all over the place except at their homeground :).
And TEN traderoutes to Hatch :sniff!: .
I won't say too much to not spoil things for others.

What is the MScore?
Never mind, found the Mpts: 170.

Btw, I beat you in years ;p . Haven't checked the military score though.
