Pressure building on Stardock

Isn't it amazing to read how those disappointed MoO3 fans are now flocking to the GalCiv forums. It's like the percieved failure of Master of Orion 3 is creating a whole new market for GalCiv. Of course it really puts pressure on Stardock, since a lot more people are becoming aware of Galactic Civilizations. But of course, we all know that GalCiv can live up to the hype.

well, I actually kinda hope that the majority of the Moo3 fans that are active over on the Moo3 board, doesnt head this way. or if they do, that they undergo a radically change of perception of what can and what cannot be written on the net :)

But yes, Galciv can hold under pressure

Yeah, the profanity is flourishing. That should be easy to control, however.

BTW Flemming, how ís your MOO3 playing going. Have you won yet??

Asmodean,
about the Moo'ing - nope - I Actually havent managed to make a simple win yet :(
dunno why really, but most of the times I've stopped a game, is because of stuff missing after re-loading a game.
I've lost ships and other stuff seems to have been reset from time to time after reloading, causing me to yell and pull my hair out :)

oh well, we are all waiting for the patch :)

how about you?? managed to win yet??

No...as I wrote to you in my last e-mail, work is pretty crazy. And while I would like to dedicate my free time to Mooing, I'm súre that both my wife and my 9 months old son would have strong objections. I.e in case of wife: DIVORCE and in case of son: WAAA WAAA WAAA ;)

Yeah - that's why I'm here as well - a little disappointed with MOO3. Also, the fact that a flyer for GalCiv came with MOO3 ;D

Reading the FAQ, I'm looking forward to GalCiv's demo. I'd like to see if they have avoided the micromanagemet trap. Their FAQ states that accessibility is important, and micromanagement is detrimental to accessibility, IMHO.

But then QS said they were going to break the micromanagement mould with MOO3, and it's still one of the biggest problems. I have my own ideas about what QS should have done, but what do StarDock think? How do they plan to avoid the same mistakes?

Cheers

i'm not worried. i played the beta. so have a lot of us. beta testers weren't selected either. we're just a bunch of joes who pre ordered the game.

i can tell you honestly that this is the single best strategy game i have ever played.

here are my rankings:

#1 galciv
#2 SMAC (after patches)
#3 MOO 1
#4 Civ 2
#5 SMGettysburgh
#6 MOO 2
#7 Medieval: Totalware
#8 civ 3
#9 HOMM 3
#10 Age of Wonders 2

galciv has a special trait beyond all these games. i have played galciv betas for month and the game still feels new and fresh each time. the ai, the way that the universe just makese sense.

galciv is a thousand tiny nice touches put together that are greater than the sum of its parts.

From what I've seen, Stardock has already delivered on GalCiv in spades. Bonuspak, updates for a year, actually *posting* to the forums instead of hiding, non-NDA beta tests..... Other devs could take lessons here... ;)

Sounds good.

My list of best strat games is somewhat different, as I also enjoy lots of tactical play - Close Combat is always good.

I personally think Shogun is better than Medieval in interface terms - the way the formations change so they work better together wasn't carried over to Medieval.

But anyways, the fact that the potential customers have played a game before release, and said it's great, is always a good indication of a great game. The fact that people say the game is good, but StarDock are still making improvements, is another good sign.

Definitely something to look forward to, I think.
