Stardock has released the DEMO of Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition. This gives new users a taste in what is in Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition and lets users who have the original Galactic Civilizations II a way to see what's new in Dark Avatar (the expansion pack).

The demo includes:

  • Play on medium maps
  • Up to 4 civilizations to play against
  • Win through conquest, diplomacy, technology, or influence

Thanks for the demo. I have a couple of questions about it.

I own the original Galactic Civilizations II. If I install this demo to try DA, will it cause problems with or overwrite my purchased installation of DL? If so, is there a seperate demo of just DA for those of us who already own the original and want to try DA?

It should be using different registry keys, but just to be safe, you might want to use Stardock Central to archive your current installation of GalCiv2 so that you can uninstall and restore it if necessary.

They don't make it very clear on their site, but you only need a free account to download it using their public servers (the pay servers are faster).

Can anyone give me an abstract of their Privacy Policy

i.e. is there any guarantee that they don't give away the data to any other data collectors for money?

Things like "only to our employees, agents and contractors who have a business reason to have access to such information." (note the term "contractors" and "business reason") are usually a good sign that your data will be on the big market in no time.

It's a very hard read and I can't find anything that makes me feel comfortable.

I guess I have to wait until a better place for downloads is available.

Why are you looking at a privacy policy? All you need to put is your e-mail address.

fileplanet is fine to be using, the free account is enough, and you will not be bombarded with email, junk mail, or real mail of any kind from anyone because of using their service.

Can some one help me? Whenever I try to play this and it comes up with the menu with the link to galciv2.com, when I click continue it exits out and takes me to galciv2.com?
